Hey guys I am looking to buy a cheap bike and wanted to get you
opinion since I am not familiar with the 2 wheel scene. Looking at
spending 1500 bucks and have found a few 250 2 strokes and a couple
yzf250 bikes. Would i be better of with a 2004 2 stroke 250 or a
2002-2003 4 stroke 250. Anybody got any leads on bike for sale? None
of the bikes I am looking at really appeal to me but I think I am just
used to riding a newer quad. I imagine I will just be trail riding.

Well of course I would recommend honda and dave & daniel will come back with yamaha but either way I would stay away from a 4 stroke 250 from a maintenance view. 2 strokes are pretty cheap to buy and maintain.

I am trying to sell my bike. 04 crf450.  Everyone knows how much I didn't ride it and it's a pretty clean bike.  I would need to sell it for more than 1500 but not much.  Would you like to have a 450??

I've got a 2000 CR250 for $1400. It has fmf pipe, brand new top end,
near new tires/chain sprocket. Plastics are all intact but new ones
would really dress it up. It's a great bike for the $ with plenty of
gitupandgo. Your welcome to come out and ride it. Not sure how to
attach pics but I can text them to you from my phone

hey russ, how much more are we talking? 1500 is all I had left over
after I paid for my little girl to have her tonsils and adnoids taken
out yesterday morning, but I could always sell my liver or my right
lung on the black market. I've found an 04 RM 250 thats pretty clean
for 1300 but the guy is really shady sounding and I'm just not getting
a good vibe from him. I'd hate to be out somewhere riding and have
somebody say that it was there bike.

looking for their wife or kiddo. It was my daughters so pretty easily
ridden. It's got fmf pipe, vforce3 reeds and new topend. Ready to ride/

Well i pulled the trigger on a 04 RM250. bike is pretty clean and has
been fairly well taken care of. Wound up picking it up for 1100 but I
had to drive to tulsa to get it. It has a new rekluse clutch on it so
I am curious to see how that is on a 2 stroke. The guy also gave me a
new set of wheels and tires but the wheels have not been laceed up
with spokes yet, anybody know how to do this? Anybody rode a 2 stroke
with a rekluse on it? He said that he wasn't sure if he like it but
kept it on it to justify spending the 500 bucks on it.Its got the uual
mods like pipe, reeds, flywheel weight, & new top end(which every 2
stroke for sale seems to have or thats what they claim. It also have
some easton h-bars on it that look like they are about 1-1/2" dia???

Forgot tho...I've never ridden a 2 stroke with a recluse clutch or laced rims before but we could give it the ol college try. All those extras should set you up perfect for the woods. You going to try an occra race with it?

well the guy was a fixin it up to run occra with but he got
transferred to oregon so the bike had to go, so it is set up somewhat,
not to mention that the suspension was just redone by marshall's for a
cross country 190# rider. I want to get a knee brace before I ride
since I won't be having my ACL done anytime soon, but I figured RV did
it for a couple years so I can too, also pacie (my oldest girl) had
her surgery friday and has been doing fine but starting running a
really high fever today and we have been fighting it to go down and
stay down so the next couple days might be out of the question. I am
thinking about yanking off the wheels tonight and and unlacing them
since I will have to use the same stock hubs. Anybody heard of the
Kenda Washougal tires.

How she pulls thru ok...I'm sure she will be fine. Just let me know when you want to ride, I usually try to hit draper on wednesday nights after work. I have heard if those tires...supposed to be good...I think there fire soft dirt but can't remember.

Sounds like you got one heck of a deal for what you paid!  Glad you were able to find something and by the way...congrats on loosing your training wheels.  :-)

he gave me the rekluse box with the stock clutch in itand the box just
says Zstart with nothing referencing a "pro" model. Also noticed that
there is a little tube on the top left side fork tube where the flat
head screw for what I assume is the rebound adjustment is that has
some type relief valve on it that looks like it can be pushed
relieving some gas pressure but none is found on the right side. What
is this?

It sounds like you have a fork bleeder on only one fork. No big deal. I think I might have an oddball one laying around here somewhere. If not you could buy a pair and end up with a spare. they aren't too expensive.
You can adjust the z-start clutch. does it have the perch adjuster on the clutch cable near the lever?

BTW I had a rekluse on a two-stroke 200 ktm and loved it:)

It doesn't have the perch adjuster. I looked at the install
instructions and it mentioned that the gap was critical but I haven't
yanked off the cover to look at it, was hoping for a easier fix since
I don't own any feeler guages yet. I pushed the little valve and just
a little squirt of air/notrogen came out then nothing? The easton fat
bars I got really needs the bleeder gone because they are to big and
rub it, so I would like to get rid of it if possible. Do I need this
or can I just yank it off and replace it with a flat head screw like
the right side. Does this need to have a bunch of pressure in it? It
felt like there was vary little in it.

You don't want pressure to build up in your forks. The bleeder is
there to let it out easier than using a screwdriver. If it is touching
your bars better to have it gone.

You probably will want to start shopping for a perch adjuster. It will
let you use the clutch lever for over-ride. In other words you will be
able to use your clutch when you need to. If you have the perch adjuster
you can adjust the engagement from the handlebars. It is possible that
the gap is too small on the clutch right now but before you jump to that
conclusion you need to adjust the spring that is hooked to the clutch
actuator. It should have two lock nuts so you can adjust it. You want to
add more tension on the spring if it is dragging. You can buy a slightly
stronger spring at the hardware store if you need to.

To keep it from pulling on you when you put it in gear You can turn down your idol and check your clutch clearance.  You need two sets of feeler gauges to do this! If you need help, come out to Fry Lake! Dad and I have done this way to many times!!

sold!!! I can manage $30 . I called the guy and he said that he had
one but forgot to give it to me and said he would mail it, but I
haven't been able to get ahold of him the past 2 days. I sent in my
wheels and hubs to prowheel to get laced up. They said they would do
it for 35 bucks and ship them back out in 24 hours. sure beats the
90dollar quotes I got here local.

Man I can't wait to get this thing back up and going so I can go try
out all of the trails I haven't been able to ride.i was hoping that
once I jumped back on the bike, it would all come back to me, but that
was not the case. My balance was all off. Its going to take me a long
time to get used to that unstable bike squirming around beneath me. I
might need to borrow some of hannah's old training wheels.

Hey dave,
tell me when I might be able to pick this up from you. If you are
going to be in okc anytime soon definitely let me know I will meet
you, but I might drive out there in a week or two if you aren't coming
to the city. I am not in too big a hurry because I got the bike
stripped down now and probably won't be looking to ride for another 2
weeks while I get some things fixed up on the old goat. I can not
believe rotors are so high! I've found a few things that I would like
to replace but don't have to. I am going to have to learn to draw the
line somewhere so I don't throw a bunch of money into an old bike when
I could have just bought a newer bike.

Too bad I didn't see this before I left for the races i could have
taken it with me and sent it your way with Jamie or one of the others
that lives close to you. It is small so I can mail it to you for
probably $5 or less. Might be better than the gas to drive.

How did you guys do. Anybody out of shape for the summer break. How
was the track? I was curious to see how they were going to make a
cross country course without any trees.

It actually turned out to be an awesome track except for the rain that came in and made it super slick. I've been sick all week so I decided to work it. Daniel had bike problems and couldn't finish. Dave got a flat tire after the third turn that set him back quite a ways and Cory was able to shine thru with a second place. Stacy represented the quads for us but like me, she has been sick but she fight thru and finished but I can't remember what place she got?  No one got hurt so it was a good weekend!

Cory ran out of gas. Correction , cory's Honda ran out of gas 1/4 mile from the finish with  a 2+ min lead on 2nd place. I think he got 4th or 5th. He had a good attitude about it though.

Bummer you have to sell it but it's for a good reason and you can always get another one when you get out of school.  Group is doing good. Occra started back up last weekend so some of us are back to racing and others are riding mx and play riding. Good luck in school and if you get a chance, look us up and we may have a bike you can borrow for a ride.
