They just dropped another $150 to $1100 for a running 2001 wr250f with a rekluse clutch!

Just what you need more HP! Seriously though it would make a sweet dune machine. I may need to go out there to get my old 450x from my son. If that happens then I would spring for the gas and maybe team drive with you and we could get them both.

I would love to Dave. But seriously I would have to hit the pawn shop
to come up with this money. I want that quad so bad it makes me sick
that I don't have any savings right now. Dave you should just get it

I was volunteering my wife because she misses the grandson in Phoenix so
much. I don't think she would let me go without her. I need to call my
450x buyer to see if that deal is falling apart and if it is and way to
get it out here comes together I would just bring it back. My son bought
it a year ago and has ridden it once so figures he doesn't want to tie
up the money for one ride a year. A friend of mine wanted to buy it and
now it looks like he may need to move for work

yes it has...I've hardly ridden this summer.  I'm heading out to Draper tonight after work to ride with Ray from Shawnee Honda...going to compare some temperatures on the bikes and let him see what's going on.  Actually, since I took all the anti-freeze out and put in SuperCool it seems to be starting better...1 or 2 kicks.

It dropped a valve but didn't ruin my big bore cylinder. New piston and head gasket should be in tommorrow and I will put it back together using the head from the rental bike. I can put the rental bike together with the head from the 07 but it has less compression so I may want to put stainless valves int the head that came off if I can find another big bore. If I put it back stock size I can order a high compression piston and just run the late model head.

Good news on your bike Dave!

Ya, I noticed at MX tracks I never had starting problems but did in the woods so I started comparing temps on those temp stickers on my radiator and noticed I was running about 40 degrees hotter in the woods!  The supercool has dripped that about 20+ but still going to compare temps in bikes.  Wondering if a boysen water pump would help even more.

Now Jamie will have an excuse for not riding with us squids! If he has to ride slow his bike won't start right!
Can't they just adjust the mixture mapping to compensate for that last 20 degrees? Seems like if the coolant hasn't boiled out it should be able to start.

Squids....LOL....I'm feeling like the slow guy these days :)

It's a catch 22...the map I have leaned out the bottom to start easier when hot but when you lean it out, it runs hotter.  I have Kevin Windham's factory map on the bike now and it runs great and seems to start better.  It also seems like the more run time I have, the better it is too...sitting at about 23 hours...maybe it just needed more break in time...who knows.  We'll see what Ray thinks tonight at Draper.

Dave C

unread,
Aug 11, 2010, 12:37:14 PM8/11/10

I didn't think about the leaner map making it run hotter. I was thinking they could lean it out at just idle rpm and below. I would think that it should have been broken in and running cooler in the first 5 hrs but maybe these motors take longer. If it takes much linger than 25 hrs you could be in trouble. Don't they recommend that you replace the piston in 50 hours?

Maybe MX in the summer and woods in the winter is what that bike needs.

BTW Daniel went up and bannered off the rock that took out your 03 motor so nobody else would wreck and have to buy a new fuel injected bike:)

LOL.....thanks Daniel! It is just leaned out on the bottom...up to 3000 rpm but that's where I am in the woods too. We'll c what we find out tonight and go from there...may be able to richen it up at 2000 but by leaning it out on the whole bottom it got rid of the hard hit it had in the close range of low throttle.

I have a 2007 Honda TRX 450R sepcial edition bought new in 09' that I have just finished buidling with anticipaction of racing OCCRA, but never got to due to a knee injury. I have only got to this once since the build. It has very low hours on it. Stock bottom end and piston. Curtis sparks cam, Full System BigGun EvoR Exhaust, intake, Pro-Armor nerf bars, shocks revalved by GT Thunder for 190lb rider, GT thunder XC rear shock link, ProTaper Handlebars, American Star +2+1 A-Arms, Dual S/S brake lines, Parking Brake Block Off, Orange Wire Mod, Multiple sprockets, all original parts, RAZR rear tires, RAZR 2 front tires, ITP baja wheels, Jet Kit, EZ adjust idle mixture screw, streamline Billetanium steering stablizer, Engine Ice,New NGK spark plug, and many other parts I can not remember. Dyno'd at 49.8 HP at sandtrax after cam install. XC Set up width is 48" front & rear with dirt tires and 50" with sand tires. I have a brand new set of Maxxis RAZR blade front and rear sand tires and polished ITP wheels that I will throw in for another $200.00 (these cost over $500.00) Like I said, I just built the thing and have 1 ride on it since the build when I discovered I had tore my ACL. Never raced. Oil changed after every ride. Air Filter cleaned after every ride. Starts and runs like a champ.

torn ACL, busted cartlidge, need reconstructive surgery. Going to be
down for a bit. Don't want quad sitting around depreciating. Sold it
after just a few hours on craigslist, should have asked more but
thought I would have been strectching it. 4300 was all I had invested
in it. I tore it when i cased the double at woodward. Noticed it
wasn't healing after the konawa race and kept giving way but thought
it would heal like a broke bone but never did.

That's a bummer man...I know all to well having surgery and not being able to ride :)  I also know it gets pretty rough trying to get things done around the house when you're on crutches and knee braces...don't hesitate to let us know what we can do to help you out!  When are you going under the knife?

I had Busted Cartilage last year... and my knee still doesn't feel the same.  Over 60% of the weight bearing cartilage was gone and it was bone on bone. They did Micro-Fracture Surgery to "fix it".  Hopefully you will recover fast and get back to riding sooner than later!
