Dear friends,

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program is seeking candidates for a social science coastal-related Mendenhall Postdoctoral Research Fellowship opportunity working remotely with the USGS Coastal and Marine Science Centers in Santa Cruz, CaliforniaSt. Petersburg, Florida; and Woods Hole, Massachusetts. This postdoctoral researcher will help advance fundamental Coastal Change Hazards research, guide and improve coastal hazard assessment capabilities, and advance knowledge of coastal processes to meet the needs of coastal stakeholders around the Nation.

As you may know, the Mendenhall program provides (excepted service) federal employment to postdoctoral scientists, giving them the chance to join a team of federal researchers, work on projects that serve the public interest, and advance their own research agendas. The application process includes writing a research proposal targeted to a specific research opportunity.

Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the Research Advisor(s) early in the application process to discuss project ideas. See the links below for specific descriptions and required qualifications for this position. For a list of all available opportunities, visit our Mendenhall research opportunities page.

Cheers,

Amanda

Closing Date: November 1, 2023
How to apply

Opportunity that might be of particular interest to your graduating students:

Coastal storm prediction models predict impact to both ecological and social parts of the coastal ecosystem. There has been much less attention paid to assessing social aspects of model predictions. This research opportunity will focus on developing an approach to assessing social aspects of model predictions using modelled results along with the impact of an actual storm event. (Advisor(s): Dawn Kotowicz, Jack Friedman, Amanda Cravens)
