Hello everyone,
I hope folks are doing well and finding hope where you can.
A few people wrote me to let me know that you couldn’t make it to last Wednesday’s “Solidarity and Resilience” webinar, in part because of a huge panel on disasters at the WAU Congress. Ordinarily I wouldn’t send this link out, but I thought people might be interested in the information my Haitian colleague Joe Felix provided about the right-now efforts to assess damage and coordinate disaster relief in the south of Haiti following Hurricane Melissa. Also it was nothing short of a miracle (and AMAZING support from Respond: Crisis Translation) that my Cuban colleague Elizabet Godefoy Núñez was able to be there to outline their efforts, process, and solidarity. This latter might be useful to other disaster scholar-practitioners.
Jane Henrici, who is on this listserv, did an absolutely amazing job facilitating the Zoom room with over 80 attendees.
Here is the recording of the English language feed / translation – given the technological challenge Jane and I were the only two on camera while speaking: https://youtu.be/YuK7DBtcDJA?si=LeuvyU8lDFpZuWNf – think of it as a podcast. :)
Anyway sorry for this but I do feel given the timeliness it might be worth folks’ time. Feel free to ignore the email of course… I know things are particularly challenging right now.
Thanks all.
Do take good care,
