Subject: Fw: Michael Moshe's Resume For Hebrew School Teacher at Temple Ohev Shalom .

: I just came across your Temples advertisement in this weeks Jewish Times about your interest in religious school teacher for your  classes. I am a certified Hebrew School teacher from the Machon LeMachanchim Torah Umesorah teaching program . I was graduated in December of 1987 . The following year I was graduated from the Ner Israel Rabbinical College - (Yehivat Ner Yisroe-l) in Baltimore with a degree in Talmudic Law . Since that time I have taught various Judaic courses in different venues . Actually , one of my teaching opportunities in the Western, Pa (Pittsburgh ) area was about 10 years ago- at a local  Temple. (I think the principal was Ms. Susan Loether ) If my memory is correct , I taught for about two semesters-sessions. My memories are very positive and I was well received by the children . I was taught by my teachers and Rebbeyim that the most important goal for a teacher - of adults - or children - is that the Torah matters...to all types . I have personally been open to all denominations that wish to discover Toah values . As you can see in my resume - my life as a teacher - or as a community activist -  has always been balanced between a commitment to Halachah / Jewish law , and advocating on behalf of those most in need in our communities . I would be happy to  speak with you - at your convenience about any of this in more detail . I also would be more than willing to share some references of friends and Jewish educators that I have worked with . Thanks for your interest - Mevarach- Michael (Moshe )Milch - Pgh

Interesting that someone from this kind of background would want to come to BSS.  The only thing I can imagine is that he did not read the ad closely and he most certainly did check out our web site.  Just imagine him in an interview when I say “our mission is to provide a Jewish community for interfaith families, same sex couples, singles of all orientations, etc…”  His next thought would be “How do I get out of here?”  I visited Ner Israel Rabbinical College once for the Bris of the son of a female colleague some years ago.  It was quite an experience.  I felt like I was going to another world altogether and felt quite out of place among the beards and black hats.  I found it odd that I could be closer to the baby being circumcised than the mother.  I had a companion in my discomfort—an uncle of the mother who had strayed from orthodoxy and felt as uncomfortable as me.  Needless to say, I would say no to this one.

As with the earlier candidates who hewed more closely to this mold, I didn't give him a second thought. Should we honor their applications with a negative response as we did the other candidate... As a courtesy?
