A Letter Of Solidarity To The Workers’ Of ERT From Global Movements
June 13th 2013
In the face of today’s 24/h general strike in Greece, we as groups, self organized initiatives from around the world, want to express our solidarity and support to the workers’ of ERT, the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation.
On Tuesday June 12th, the conservative political party of Nea Dimokratia, which leads the greek coalition government, with the support of the right-wing extremist political party Golden Dawn, decided without a prior notice the closure of ERT. Employees defied the decision, remained in the ERT’s headquarters in Athens, with the journalists broadcasting via web live feed.
Spontaneously, a politically diverse crowd has arrived to support the action. This is not only a reaction to the undemocratic way the decision of closure was made. It is an alert to all the groups that are oppressed.
ERT emerges as a place of resistance for all those groups. It can serve as the center for the spreading of self-organized efforts and solidarity actions. Its spaces can be utilized to host debates, discussions, meetings and planning of activities; an open space to allow people support each other and to come closer to their personal struggles, that can not but be shared with the struggles of others.
In Solidarity,
