The direct-choice organisation is part of a coalition of like-minded
groups, individuals and organisations who all cherish your right to
have a say. We're not so so much talking about voting once in a few
years, but about making choices directly whenever and wherever
something affects you.
We believe that this right is implied where a constitution calls for
democratic elections. Nonetheless, to have clarity in principle it's
good to see this pre-existing right further affirmed by the
articulation into the Constitution of an overriding imperative
directing government to support direct-choice. After all, the right of
direct-choice precedes your choice to appoint a politician or anyone
else to represent you. If politicians claim that you had chosen to be
represented by them, then surely you have a prior right to withdraw
that proxy (if you ever gave it in the first place) and to instead
decide for yourself.
We want you to help us making people more aware that, instead of
having a politician deciding for them on their behalf, people could
each rightfully decide for themselves, directly making choices - in
line with their prior right of direct-choice. In addition to the fact
that direct-choice better reflects people's rights, we also believe
that direct-choice works out better economically for all of us. The
idea of any single party or person deciding how to run the economy is
at odds with the many economic studies that point out that a monopoly
doesn't work well and therefore should be avoided. Instead of having
one politician deciding things on behalf of a lot of people, all these
people could and should each rightfully keep making decisions for
themselves, directly making choices - in line with their right of
direct-choice.
