Basically i was using my camera as usual when the picture went extremely blurry. I turned it off to turn it back on again but the lens stayed out, which it has never done before. It now won't turn on properly, it just shows the 'Cyber-Shot' start screen and the lens is still extended. Really need this fixing as my father not long passed away and this was the last birthday present he ever got me and i also make youtube videos, there are many reasons this camera is important to me and i'd really appreciate any help!

I have same problem with DSC-HX90V and Sony's instruction book and troubleshooting are useless - battery is fully charged and camera is frozen closed - had this problem some years ago with Sony SureShot so i will not touch Sony ever again

danaandersen , the reason for this "It now won't turn on properly" is because something is interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Check on here for some more information and potential fixes. Personally I have had not much luck with those and replaced the lenses on cameras. Definitely worth a try.

I had the same problem with my Sony a5000. My lens was stuck and the screen on the back was black, even though it would turn on and off. My battery seemed to be overheating, so I took it out for about an hour, popped it back in, and then pressed the Menu button for 5 seconds and then turned on the camera. My problem was solved after that and everything seems to be working fine for now.

I thought my Sony DSC-HX20V (Sony has the worst product names) was shot after a fall. It already had problems with lens making a whining noise that I have to bang on it to stop. I can't believe that this fixed it! Took out battery, held down power, menu, put battery in. Let off held them down again and WOW seems to be fine. It was locked up and a purple static screen would come upon powering up.

This worked for my DSC-H300, thanks for the tip. The screen got very blurry and wouldn't focus, and then it extended the lens and turned itself off (i think batteries died. But then the lens was stuck fully extended and it would not load beyond the "cyber-shot" logo. But removed batteries, pressed "menu" and "power" while replacing the batteries, and then it powered up and loaded screen. Working fine now. (tried many battery changes and memory card changes to troubleshoot the problem with no results before trying this)

This worked after a few times of trying. I had left the camera alone for quite some time, months even. Today I decided to take it out and try different options. I started with this simple suggestion and after 3 to 4 attempts lens went in and camera is completely functional. Thank you so much for your help.

The only answer to the question was you have to change the battery or else you have to recharge to fully..Next is you put your fingers on power button and picture shot button and press at a time .Try like that.put some pressure on lens also..Don't put much effort..Good luck

I've just had the same problem today and I noticed that the camera on the left hand side was a bit warm. I left the camera for about an hour to cool down with the batteries out and when I turned it back on everything went back to normal. Hope this helps anyone else in the future.

I have a Sony DXC-HX90-V Cybershot camera. When turning on the camera, I applied a little pressure to the front of the lens so that it retracted a bit on startup. When I turned it off, still applied pressure and got a bit more of retraction. Had to pop battery out and in to be able to turn it on again each time. Repeated until eventually the lens retracted completely, after which it worked properly!
