Data syncing merges library items, notes, links, tags, etc. between your local computer and the Zotero servers, allowing you to work with your data from any computer with Zotero installed. It also allows you to view your library online on
zotero.org.

Zotero should automatically install the Word plugin on Windows when it is downloaded. If it does not, however, it is possible to solve this manually. Locate the "Zotero.dotm" file in the Zotero program file hierarchy in the C drive of a Windows computer. (The filepath should be something similar to C:\Program Files (x86)\Zotero\extensions\zoteroWinWordIntegration
zotero.org\install.) Copy this file and paste it into the Microsoft Office/Word program file hierarchy. (The filepath should be something similar to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\STARTUP.) After restarting Word, the Word plugin should appear under a new Zotero tab.
If someone views the document without having the Zotero Connector installed, or if you download the document instead of first making a copy and unlinking citations, active citations in the document will show up as links leading to URLs such as -docs/?abc123.
Unlike in Microsoft Word, Zotero does not have an entire tool bar in Google Docs. To access the Zotero features in Google docs you will need to click on the Zotero tab in the tool bar and then select the function that you would like to do from the menu that appears.
