Shorter variant names

People talk again of shorter variant names for WW901.

Maybe there is an easy way to implement it, without database hassle?

What about abbreviation support, where we define abbreviated names for the provinces in the variant definition, and those names are used by clients with less screen real estate?

It would simplify the design a LOT :)

Sounds good to me! The only trick with it is that we'll probably have both long and short displayed to different players in the same game (e.g. if they're on different versions of the app). I suggest we use the Game Settings or Variant Information pages to display both, so players can at least look up the mapping between East Frankish Kingdom and Germany.
