First, the obvious: I see a lot of discussions about design, coding, and change logging variants, and I see links to the actual diplicity code. I don't see any information about what language/tool is used to develop variants, or where to find it.

...I decided to skip the second bit about modular options for variants, as it will depend on the first.

Thanks in advance.

Start by looking at https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/diplicity-talk/IRFOUOkxdJw

Variants are created by adding code to the adjudicator, godip. It's written in the language "go", and a variant basically consists of a configuration structure defining what map SVG to use, how units can move across it, and which rules to follow.

Tttppp has created a tool that streamlines some of this in some cases, that you can find linked in the above discussion.

Thanks for the prompt reply. But I don't see anything at that link, and I just noticed a little box way down the page saying that I don't have permission.

Does that make sense?

Perhaps you have to join the Group diplicity-talk? How did you join diplicity-dev?

I've helped a couple of people make variants via Discord.  You could message me by joining either of these:
Diplomacy Nexus: https://discord.gg/v2ccC7
Diplicity Hub: https://discord.gg/n34gKe

Alternatively if you have specific questions then this Google Group is a good place for them.

If you want to read up more about how variants are created then have a look at these two readme files:
