Or was it just a ploy? A false memory(hence constructed, doctored, ie a dream) augmented with some realistic aspect, ie, the horse being put into the furnace? In other words, was the dream constructed by a memory some maker (and augmented by someone) a ruse or it was real in the first place? The first Blade Runner introduced us to this brilliant idea of implanting memories and how they separate real people from replicants. Of course, Nexus 6s failed to pass the VK test. I expect the writers and Ridley to come up with something more in 2049 movie from the original, not just continue the original story: that is, the movie should be much more specific with regards to the memories. VK is obsolete. And hence delineating humans from replicants is only possible by memories. Think about it, in principle, only authenticity of one's memories define someone to be a human and thus NOT to be a slave. Of course, there is that aspect that replicants had a serial number. And they could not reproduce. But that is the main story of the second movie - the child would not have a serial number and it seems like it should be able to reproduce sexually. And this is how it breaks the wall - now suppose, that baby gives lives and breeds new species. Are they slaves any more? The remanining Nexus 8s, now have a cause to fight for the future of those new species. They can't salvage themselves, because they have serial numbers and false memories, but is it not human to die for the right cause? These Tyrell Nexus 8s, are truly more human than humans. Contrast them to Nexus 9s created by Wallace. Perhaps another reason they are being hunted. The only difference between the replicants and humans is just memories. Tell that to replicants and tell them that they can be born and can give life they will fight for their freedom. At least Nexus 8s, pre-Wallace made ones will. If they don't the movie breaks down :) and we have no movie.
So now we go back to the boy and the memory( or a dream ) If it was real, who is the boy? If the memory is true, who is its first bearer? If it is the child of Rachael and Deckard, can it be Stelline? Is there a very strong reason to actually believe this? If Deckard had a child, and say that he put the baby into orphanage, when did he pass the wooden horse to the baby? Presumably, wood being extinct, and it presented value, therefore, surely the orphanage administrators would take the piece away from the baby. Yet, the child somehow kept the toy. Was that memory the only memory K has? It seems so, because all he got to talk about is that particular memory and nothing else. This is a bit of funny and gloomy, the idea here that K in fact has only single memory. At least, only one worth talking about, according to K. Also, it seems unlikely that Deckard would compromise his secrecy and risk the baby by putting the baby into orphanage with the super expensive toy. It would raise suspicion and natural selfish interest of the orphanage administration : if they follow the person who put the baby into orphanage they would perhaps find a trace to more wood. Right? So was the implant doctored then? Or was it real? Recall, before visiting Stelline he found the wooden piece in the orphanage. And he goes to Stelline and he watches and sees that his memory swayed Stelline visually: she began crying. Now think about this : she doesn't know what K knows. She has no idea that he found the piece in the furnace. But she sees the memory and starts crying. Why? And what does this mean? How about this : one day, suddenly, a random dude shows up, a replicant at that (recall her "KD6 dash 3 dot 7". When she learns he is just a replicant, she wants to go to work if possible. In any case, a normal person, human would have a name, recall "that is not a name, that's a serial number") and he somehow has her memory. At the time, K was still a blade runner, he was investigating the case for LAPD. And if Stelline told him it was her memory and that she produced it, it would be illegal by her own admission. She would effectively incriminate herself. She knows that. She knows she should not do it. And perhaps she never put that memory for sale. But then if she never put that memory for sale what it implies? She can absolutely confirm that she is replicant, implanted with someone's memory. Or she put that memory for sale to Wallace and it got implanted to K. If she did not sell this memory this is very similar to the cruel reveal that Deckard did to Rachael. She thinks she is a human, and he tells her secret memory. Bam, she knows her memory was doctored. She cries. Stelline learns a replicant has the same memory she does and suddenly she is beginning to suspect she is a replicant as well. She starts crying. She is upset. The question is: did she sell the memory to Wallace or not. If she did not sell, she knows she is a replicant. If she did sell however, here comes a replicant with her sold memory implanted. But why should this make her cry? So what if she sold her own memory? Nothing tragic for her to make her cry infront of a blade runner, police officer. Even more so, she has every incentive not to show that she sold her own real memory, because admitting this to a police officer is admitting a crime. The question now is what made her weep? Was she crying because it was her memory and the boy in the memory was actually her? Then she must have been in the orphanage. But the DNA records from LAPD archive showed that the female was deceased, with the galatians syndrome. But Deckard said he scrambled the records, whatever that means, lets just say he exchanged them, and so the other record with same DNA was of a boy who according to the file, disappeared. In either case she has a DNA which links to either a deceased female record or to a boy who is missing. She is a toast if somebody official finds this out. How did she, with her DNA, with her questionable identity is working for Wallace? And what did she say to K: "SOMEONE LIVED THIS YES". K is upset. He tells "I know what's real". But wait a second, lets look at this a bit closer. What can he conclude that is real? What is real that he refers to? We know the only thing that is real is the fact that he found the toy in the orphanage. So, what K can definitely and absolutely confirm? That he was implanted. Now, is the implant completely made up? If so, who put the toy into furnace then? So he continues the investigation. And what does he know is real as well? He knows Deckard is real! Deckard is real and he has wooden toys which are quite similar to the horse toy he has. Then events happen in the movie where he learns that there is this resistance, Fraysa and other rogue replicants. They want him to kill Deckard. But, K does not, which is good. Why would Fraysa want him to kill Deckard? She can't do it herself. What does he do instead? He frees Deckard from everyone instead: Fraysa doesn't know if he is dead. Wallace doesn't know he is dead. Recall when Deckard said to K that he should have left him to die in the car, K says: "You did". It only means that as far as everyone is concerned, Deckard is now free. That is nobody knows if he is alive or not - same thing as if he is free. Now, the main question is: is the memory true memory or false memory? If it is a false memory and somebody put the horse into furnace then. And that somebody knew about the date. Is the date significant? We really don't know, do we? Because the only point of reference is Deckard and he did not say anything about it. But what if the dream was a real memory infact and there was a boy, who snuck a horse into the furnace, then the fact that his memory was extracted and put into at least one replicant(maybe +1 as at this point Stelline might be a replicant herself) means that the boy is either another dream maker or he was in fact dissected( or read off in other non destructive way ) and his memory had become known to someone who puts false memories into Nexus 9 models, ie Wallace.
Orphans: A Hollywood Dream Come True is the memoir of Shawn Patrick Bierns journey from a childhood, bouncing from orphanage to numerous and sometimes abusive foster homes to a home for disturbed children, to the fulfillment of his dream hairdresser to the stars. With his eye fixed on his goal and backed by the strength of his self-avowed Irish sense of humor even as he suffered the lifelong void of not knowing his father and mother Shawn persevered, always moving forward and staying positive. These factors he attributes not only to his success and longevity but to the success of all who stay strong in the face of adversity, ever focused on their dreams.
Shawn Patrick Biern was born in West Hartford, Connecticut, and presently resides in Rancho Mirage, California. An orphan at birth, Mr. Biern fought his way through much personal travail to become a hairstylist to the stars, affording him the fulfillment of his lifelong dream and many opportunities to see much of the world. When he is not working on his next story, he enjoys gardening.
None of those dreams are bad or wrong per se. But I feel like they are all limited and not the God sized dreams I have for her. Most of her dreams could be used by God to do great things but the wishes in and of themselves are not great or epic.
In that moment, I was hit with sadness. Over the 10 years as serving as youth pastors we have worked with hundreds of teenagers. The ones who pursued those dreams of being cool ended up with heart breaking stories. Stories they would have never dreamed of writing.
The dream of popularity, wealth and fame is a deception. Those things will not lead to happiness. The pursuit of those things will not lead to great stories. Now while writing a great story one may end up being blessed with those things. But our dreams and pursuits should be big, God sized dreams. God honoring dreams.
Upon hearing these dreams I was sad but at the same time I was inspired and challenged. I realized my role is to speak new dreams into her life. That is my role in her life and any other youth I come in contact with. Our culture and our world sells those dreams to the youth. I want them to dream dreams that are too big to accomplish on their own. That is why God comes in and does a mighty work through us.
