Hi everyone,
Can someone who worked on the skeletal mount of Sobek the Spinosaurus at Field Museum help me confirm the actual length? On my first visit to Field, I spent hours looking at both Sue and Sobek. Sobek looked shorter to me, which made sense at the time because the museum's info boards confirmed that it was based on the neotype (~11 meters).
However, the museum website labelled the skeleton as 46 feet long - ~14 meters. I was surprised. I saw Sue on the same day, and saw other megatheropod mounts (Victoria, Thomas, Giganotosaurus, AMNH 5027,...). If I was a betting person, I would bet at least $10 on Sobek being no longer than 12 meters.
I could be wrong, and I know that perspective was weird because Sobek was hung up high. But if anyone knows the actual length and can provide it, that'd be great.
Thank you.
