Hi guys!

I got a friend in Shanghai living North Caozi road who needs a Ubuntu
Hardy 8.04 working CD. Could someone arrange it to be delivered of
handed over to her?

Thanks to let me know.

Hi,

If nobody has this one I can download it today and burn a CD. However, please tell me which release you need (which .torrent file from there: http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.04/).

Best regards,
Julien

Hi Julien and Mark,

My friend actually downloaded it and burnt it but is telling me it
doesn't work. Since she is not technical at all, just fed up with
Windows problems and wants to try Linux.

Needed release is 8.04 .

Thanks a lot and let me know which one of you will take care of handing
over the CD.

Marc & Julien,

I have copied my friend on this email as I am not familiar at all with
Shanghai geography. I think it's better you deal with her directly.

Cecilia: Mark is the one who has the CD but you will have to arrange the
delivery with him. Julien offered to download it and hand it over
himself to your office.

Good luck guys.

Thanks a lot for your help.

It seems like what Cecilia really needs is a guide on how to install & use ubuntu (as Fred already mentioned - she downloaded & burned it into CD...) Anyway, I have an copy too; if she needs any help, let me know!

Hi Vivicrow,

I guess she definitely needs more help than just a CD, but that's more
difficult for me to ask and I think she can ask questions to the list
now that everybody knows her.

As I said off the list to Julien and Mark, she is a bit busy this
morning at work and can't check her own personal emails. It's really
nice of all of you to have responded so quickly and Cecilia will do the
follo up herself once she is available.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Fred,

Where do they live?  I have a working copy in English.  This station is far away, isn't it?

I could get it delivered at a charge.  Write to me direct: mitch...@gmail.com.

Could you friend come into the city?

Best regards

其实8.04的问题不少, 建议你直接在email里把遇到的问题说出来,或许可以有人
在网络上直接帮你解答了。

may you can help me. I'm locking for a website, best webshop, where I can buy counterfeit software. It's not because I really wanna buy counterfeit software, but I need it for business purpose.
Thanks.

Try using free and opensource software... that will solve your moral
dilemma problem with buying
counterfeit software.

If it is only for testing purposes then why not go to these computer markets around Shanghai,

sure to have some stuff, someone mentioned Dongchang road.  But dont know where exactly.

But if it is for everyday purposes that is wrong!

Hi Lighting,

Can you tell me which Chinese text type your using? I'm using MS-OE and it
doesn't seem to register, as it's only shown as scrambled text? It shows up
correctly when if log into the web. I have no problems with others sending
me Chinese simplified or traditional characters.
Thanks...

Yes I agree with Sonny, use opensource. Started using opensource and
freeware programs awhile ago. There are tons of decent programs out there.
Free from viruses too.

Hado,
Any business it taking a big risk using pirated, illegal, or even closed source software. You'd never know and trust what exactly its doing and more so would be breaking a law copying it.
I would strongly recommend you look at Free and Opne Source software and if you have any specific questions about it, don't hesitate to ask this group.

What's type of software you're looking for? Is this Office programs or some kind of rootkits? :)

Could people communicate directly to each other, when they are in a given conversation please.

To avoid flooding others mail boxes.

hi robert:
    you can try google pinyin.

Hi ZHen Yi,
Isn't Google PinYin an inputing software?  I've been using MS PinYin for quite awhile.  In any case I was only curious about the text characters it was showing scrambled on OE Outlook Express for Lighting's particular email.  Also Google PnYin can only write Sinplified Chinese Text.  I sometimes input Traditional Chinese Text.  MSPY is quite handy as it can do both.

Correction,  Google PinYin also supports Traditional Chinese text inputing.
Just researching and reviewing the program now.
Ok I've figured out what I need to enable to read the Chinese Characters.
Thanks for the Google Pinyin tip though...

内最快的升级源是 ubuntu.cn99.com
