夫微言幽賾。妙絕聆矚。致使採翫者寡。撫哂者眾。豈非道而俗反者哉。
The subtle words[1] are so profound and abstruse, being mysteriously separated from hearing and seeing, that those who are led to [seriously] approach them and take an interest in them are very few, whereas those who just [superficially] touch and sneer at them are many. Is it not simply the case that the sacred order (or clergy) (Tao)[2] is in complete opposition to the secular order (or layman)?[3]
余少預講末。而偶好玄□。俱文義富愽。事理兼邃。既識非芥石。難可永紀。聊於講日。疏錄所聞。述記先言。其猶皷生。
In my youth, I had the opportunity to attend some lectures[4] sitting humbly in the end row of the hall. I happened to find myself interested in the profound @,[5] which was rich[6] and broad in both[7] letter and meaning and recondite in both the fact involved [as explanatory medium] (shih) and [the underlying] principle (_li_).[8] Because what is stored in one's memory does not [endure] like mustard-seed kalpa and rock kalpa,[9] one would find it impossible to keep it intact forever. Somehow on the days when there were lectures I just jotted down what I had heard during the day. To give an account of and record what I had heard earlier was like [re]producing a drum sound.[10]
又以元嘉九年春之三月。於盧山東林精舍。又治定之。加採訪眾本。具成一卷。庶釆悟君子。脫有省者。望領久繫□表。不以人徹廢道也。
Then, during the third month in the spring of the ninth year of the Yüan-chia era (432 A.D.),[11] while residing at the Tung-lin ("Eastern Grove") Monastery (ching-she)[12] on Lu-shan, again I put them in order and rearranged them. In addition, after collecting and consulting various versions, I edited them into one[13] roll. It is hoped that 'men of virtue'[14] with discriminating enlightenment realize [my] follies [possibly committed here]. I hope they may be led to the outside @[15] (of?) the eternal bondage [of transmigration] by not abandoning the path (Tao) due to human insignificance.[16]
妙法。夫至像無形。至音無聲。希微絕朕思之境。豈有形言者哉。所以殊經異唱者。理豈然乎。寔由蒼生機感不一。啟悟萬端。是以大聖示有分流之疏。顯以參差之教。
... when copied (Ctrl+C) directly from MS or Libre Office Word; can't we imitate other browsers/editors (such as GMail) that replace footnote marks with [1], [2], [3] ...?

Can't you import text with footnotes as if it is copied from a browser (i.e. first convert the text into html format, and then import it into Morpheus as normal text)? This would mean that footnotes are basically retained, only their hyperlink functionality would be lost.
