What sort of wire and connectors do you guys use. i have a 100 sensor chain to build and i was wondering what cable and connecotrs to use for the HA7 Net controller from talk1wire.

I use flat phone wire with rj11 connectors. I don't think the longest cable
run is 100 meters (spans all floors of our home). I don't have a
time-domain-reflectometer to find out...

What I do avoid is branches in the cable, I use a 1-wire hub.

It's an active device which selects one of several 1-wire network branches
for further operations. Digitemp supports them.

I bought a 6-port hub from hobby-boards but it seems they don't sell that
one anymore. I only see a 4-port one in the webshop at the moment:

Thanks for the information and reply. It looks the same as this http://www.embeddeddatasystems.com/HA7Net--Ethernet-1-Wire-Host-Adapter_p_22.html

We are using these for our network, They have 3 ports which support upto 100 sensors per port.

Thanks

There has been a lot of discussion on the owfs list on cable types, the consensus seems to be Cat-5 is best, especially for long runs.  There are recommendations on the Dallas site, but I think best practice is to keep any branches very short, if you need a long branch use a hub to split it.  Having said all that you may install a very ugly network and it might work fine, but better to do it right rather than have to install it all again in my option.

Since the 1-wire chips use the tiny amount of power trickling through the pullup resistor to operate even in non-parasite mode, cable resistance is also important for long networks, especially if not using a hub. In my Arduino-based system (using 30m alarm cable),the temperature sensors didn't operate with the suggested 4.7K default. I had to reduce the pullup resistor to 3.3K to make it work.
