Welcome! I can imagine most of you who post on this forum have Gmail, simply because you need to have a Gmail account to post -- whatever the reason I'm sure most of you use Gmail and may need some help. Whatever the product/webmail service/software or program you can ask for help on this section! Have issues with blue screens, installing other operating systems or want to know how to jailbreak your iPhone? This is the section for you. Feel free to post anything tech-related.

Today, I'm going to post a tip on how to revert to the older Gmail look. Most of you guys who want to switch back to the old Gmail look will find the new look frustrating. I have the solution for you. Typically, Gmail doesn't allow you to permanently switch back to the old user-interface, but with Firefox and Google Chrome you can! Just install the extension here: http://bit.ly/I9tJje

Well if I'm wasting your time, why take the time to post here? WHY? Google simply wants 'the most updated' email services consistently, it has nothing to do with the opinion of their customers and consumers (us). I'm not going to rant and say they don't care, but they just don't want to give us a say. "Here is your email service, give us suggestions -- now take it or leave it." is what Google is saying. This is fine for some, and not fine for some. I can't explain it any better than that.

I also might add that user interface shouldn't be the main issue if you have the correct browser.

Why do I say Google doesn't want to give us say, and the answer is simple as that? If Google were to waste every minute, asking us what colors and interface schemes we like, Google Mail would be going down the drain fast. They don't have the time to ask us What interface works for you? Instead, they work on progressing the spam filters and such. If you'd like to get your old interface back, a simple Google search query would do. I'm sure there are several browser extensions that provide something of the sort -- however you ask why. I think my answer was justified fairly.

Thanks for posting

Explain your issue in full detail here:
I am trying to reach a human at Google in order to find out if there is any way to revert back to the old format of gmail. Otherwise, I will need to switch to yahoomail or some new server. I have vision problems that require me to zoom in on the screen in order to read emails without a headache (control +). Thanks to the fact that google is more interested in having a huge sidebar of advertising than in providing a good user experience, I now cannot zoom in on the screen without having to scroll from side to side because I cannot move the vertical advertising divider to not take up so much of my screen. I am extremely frustrated- I have used google since it was brand new and I would like to be able to keep using it, but this is ridiculous. Please advise.

I can totally understand your concern as it sounds like an issue that needs to be handled. I can tell you that it is definitely harder to talk to a Google Employee than it is a Yahoo employee which is strange if they have less money.

The lack of Gmail direct support is the biggest shortcoming for Google and their users. Unless you want to post in a form topic that a google employee posted in and ask them via the form they posted in that might work. You can also try calling them directly: 1-650-253-0000

I do understand how you feel, because I feel such company should have better customer support: if they have time to introduce themelves on the form ever once in a while they should be able to speak with you directly. I also believe that if Yahoo can do something Gmail should certainly be able to but they don't have very much customer support other than this form.

Sorry if I spelled anything wrong -- on my iPhone.

My favorite feature for Gmail is highlight & quote. I found it somewhere randomly highlighting text and clicking 'r' to reply. One of the coolest features. It may not be a big deal, but to me it's pretty cool that you can quote and reply. That's usually a forum thing, not a mail thing. What's your favorite Gmail feature?

Ok, I have navigated here from another thread that promised a way of reverting back to the old look for Gmail. The link given above takes me to a Chrome download, not a Firefox one. I've also seen a rather cryptic comment about using the correct browser

"I also might add that user interface shouldn't be the main issue if you have the correct browser."

What's that all about? Sorry but it sounds very much like the bad old days of Microsoft pushing Internet Explorer as if it were the only browser worth using :-( If you refer to Chrome, sorry, I hate it and will not use it.

Well, okay I do understand your point. Then unfortunately you can't do anything as far as using Firefox. You said I sent you a Google Chrome page extension. Search that extension name in Firefox addons page. That's all I can tell you. Why don't you like Google Chrome if I may ask and what's better about Firefox?
