I just got the FreeDV application installed a couple of days ago and I  have figured out the audio configuration but I am wondering if anyone is using this with an older Flex radio (i.e. 1500/3000/5000) and can recommend Hamlib settings (I would like to trigger PTT via a

CAT command if this works).

I see Flex-1000 and Flex-6xxxx configurations for Hamlib but not PowerSDR for 1500/3000/5000. I seem to recall that PowerSDR uses the same CAT commands as Kenwood so maybe if I use one of the Kenwood configs that would work? I would appreciate hearing from anyone using a Flex-1500/3000/5000 that has PTT working for FreeDV.

Cheers

Hi All. boy any info about Flex 3000 is quite old. hoping that someone is still using FreeDV with a Flex 3000.
I have all the sound working. it the PTT that giving me grief. I try PowerSDR and nothing works. found that TS2000 set on the flex side work ???.
I cane change band & freq. FreeDV don't fallow tell I hit the START on freedv. then it changes. but after I get two windows that pop up. the first one is:
Error = CreateFileA failed with error 5:Access is denied. hit OK then the second one pops up:  Error    X Couldn't open PTT input port.

here is the set up of the two: Flex and FreeDV Pic

I can hear thing and see the water falls and the Stats has numbers that change. then I can TX and I see on the flex that i am TXing and putting power out.
Pss: I tried as wall the Flex 1000 & flex6**** on the freeDV.

have bin changing bands to find a QSO going on to confirm it working on the RX. just started 2 day ago.

thanks for any info
Mark

Hi Mark,

Try disabling PTT Input in FreeDV as that's currently set to use the same serial port that you're already using for HRD in PowerSDR. This feature is intended for use with foot switches and the like, not to trigger PTT on a radio. ("Use Serial Port PTT" is for the latter, if you'd rather use that instead of CAT commands to trigger PTT.) Hope that helps!

Thanks,

Mark -

I am using FreeDV with a Flex3000. Not having any problems with PTT.

I am confused about the issue you are having. There is an E-mail from 2015 attached and something about FreeDV not following the radio.

There is also the comment "then I can TX and I see on the flex that i am TXing and putting power out.".  If you can do that, what is the PTT issue?

If you are more specific, maybe I could tell you my settings and see if that helps.

Mark,

All you need is a virtual serial port from PowerSDR to FreeDV.   That will key the radio when you push PTT in FreeDV.   Looks like you already have a virtual port for HDR.  Look up what virtual port program you are using with PowerSDR , one end of the pair in FreeDV and other in PowerSDR for PTT.   If you want to keep HRD engaged, then pass on either PTT or CAT to FreeDV .

Hi Dudley
I know it says HRD. I had fun the night before trying to get it working. ended up just laying in bed thinking about it. well I came to think that I had HRD running and trying to get FreDV going  at the same time. The next day I did not use HRD and only FreeDV and I got things working. but still had some trouble. But I think I have it now. just have to find a QSO going on to see if the RX is working right, then try the TX

It's been some fun trying and learning. here is the setting now. look at the FreeDV setting and then the Flex. don't know why the COM 20 is working as in the flex setup it not there. lol
More testing needed.

thanks for the help.

Hey Mark. I have had far more success using the Serial PTT on my 5k with Free DV than fighting with Hamlib or Omnirig.
Simply define a PTT Serial port and use RTS to trigger it. This method has never failed me and it doesn't get in the way of other CAT-centric applications.
If the application isn't working the radio beyond PTT it doesn't make any sense to me to waste a cat port.
My setup, FreeDV: Check Use Serial Port PTT, select your Serial port and then select Use RTS and check RTS=+V
In PowerSDR: Select your PTT Control Port tick RTS and enable it.

best of luck.

I forgot to mention the obvious.. Depending on which virtual serial port software you use ( com0com, VSPE, VSPD...)
You will want to create a new spare port, or pair of ports ( again, depends on your virtual port software) to use exclusively with the serial PTT function.

I think I have it working now just have to find a QSO going on to confirm that I am RX, then find a spot and call CQ and see if i get a reply.
Thanks All will let you know how it turn out.

I have a Flex 1500 as well. I would like to know how you set it up for FreeDV.
Thanks.

Best regards,
