tx attenuation

Not sure how this works...usually 35 watts key amp to about 700 output, but if tx set to high will max out the drake l4b at 35 watts.  So now 10 watts from 7300 keys the amp to 660 out.  So is the tx attenuation used to set output levels as opposed to drive control on rig?

Hi Bob,

The TX Attenuation slider is intended to prevent ALC indication on your radio (similar to the slider WSJT-X has on the right hand side). FreeDV works much like other digital modes in that if ALC indicates, you are overdriving your radio. If you find that ALC is indicating, the idea is that you move the slider left until it no longer does so. Hope that helps!
