I am just getting started with Free DV.  My K3 is currently operational using VARA in Winlink.  I added a USB soundcard for connection to a headset with mic.  When I PTT the radio goes to transmit with output power showing a constant signal at whatever the power control is set at, no changes with making a call.  Within Free DV I can see a constant narrow trace that appears to expand as expected as I speak into the mic.  I have called CQ a number of times but without local adult supervision I don't know if I haven't been heard or there is no one listening when I happen to call.  Looks like a good potential, I agree that it could be similar to the cusp we saw back when SSB was introduced!

Hi Gary,

If you have 40 meter capability, try checking into the Tuesday night 40 meter net tonight (9pm Eastern at 7.182 MHz LSB). You can also pull up FreeDV Reporter (https://qso.freedv.org/) while you're transmitting to see if anyone happens to be receiving you. Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Open the web page qso.freedv.org and see if anyone lights up in blue when you transmit. When you unkey it show your callsign if you have been successfully decoded. Please let me know if that doesn't work for you.
Welcome to FreeDV.

Mooner, thanks for the reply!  I was on the phone and thought I heard something and discovered it was from my headphone sitting on the desk where I had laid it after trying to call CQ.  There was a conversation going on that I have good copy on one and in and out on the other, so I am half there!  I tried once to throw out my call but no response so still don’t know if I am getting out.  I will try the net tonight and see what happens I also got a reply from K5HW guiding me to a different reporting website than I think I am connecting to from the program.
