Is there a way to connect the radio WITHOUT using the USB hub? Directly connect the radio to the computer.
I have found EVERY single time, that any radio connected to a USB hub, even if it’s powered, WILL indeed fail frequently with a device that is very data intensive for back and forth data transfers, like a radio.
I see this a lot as well with programming hand held radios too.
It seems that nearly every other device works just great with them, as long as there’s not a lot of input and output data taking place.
Keyboards and mice, hard drives, usb sticks, and other things seem to work quite fine. But sadly, radios fall apart very quickly through a hub.
I often wonder if it’s an RF thing making them more sensitive, but I have never found the true source of the issue.
But besides that, here’s a very nice document for the 7300 and FreeDV that Mike-WA2TOP put together that seems to really help a lot for that radio.
All the best,
Walter/K5WH
