Dear FreeDV colleagues.
I've been testing the Windowsx64 versions of FreeDV for several days.
For this I have two HF radios at home, at a safe distance each ... an IC-7100 and an IC-7300. Also, I have access to an SDR about 500 km from my position, the one that can decode FreeDV 1600 USB mode. The link is: http://ce3vrt.duckdns.org Note that in this SDR, a tab allows to change to HF, to an Airspy in 40 meters.
Done all the tests in 1600 mode, using Windows 10, I have reached the following result:

Version // Decode OK (RX) // Encode OK (TX)
1.30 YES NO
1.40 YES NO
1.41 YES NO
1.43 YES NO
1.50 YES NO
1.53 YES NO
1.61 NO YES

My results are very disappointing.
Can someone give me some help to find out what the problem is?
Any recommendation?
Thank you very much in advance,

Sergio

Hello Sergio, it is good to know that you are in the group.

During the weekend I could give you reception reports using version 1.61 connecting to various SDRs in the area and eventually inject the decoded audio to Teampspeak or Echolink of CE3FED-L so that you have a live report.

At the moment I have no possibility of transmitting.

Kind Regards.

Sergio,

I’m not sure why you are having any issues at all.

We use this every day of the week with outstanding results, so I would very much like to work with you, to see if we can work through the setup to see what may be in the wrong place, perhaps.

Here’s a couple quick things that could help.

Use the 700D or 700E mode, for far better results in most situations, as these are many code enhancements in those, especially for weak or fading signals.

On 700D, you can set the squelch down to -2db, and with 700E at 0DB to hear weaker signals.

Let me know if you don’t see better results with that.

Thanks,

Walter/K5WH

Hi Sergio,

Some quick things to check as well:

1. Both the 7100 and 7300 are in "USB-D" or "LSB-D" mode.
2. When transmitting, there should be no ALC. If there's ALC, the volume needs to be adjusted until ALC disappears.

Also, by "decode OK" and "encode OK", are you using one of the radios for receive and the other for transmit? Or were you using the SDR for receive?

Thanks,

Dear colleagues.

In collaboration with Sergio XQ2CG's work, I was able to smoothly run version 1.6.1 on a LENOVO IDEAPAD ADM RYZEM notebook over WINDOWS 10. I had to make some adjustments to free up CPU processing power:
1 - Disable WINDOWS SEARCH (it consumes a lot of resources).
2 - Using MSCONFIG, enable the use of the four processor cores and the use of 8 GB of RAM memory.
3 - Remove from the START option all applications with automatic start that also consume a lot of processor resources.
4 - I did the decoding tests with the files that Sergio XQ2CG shared with me from the link: https://github.com/drowe67/freedv-gui/tree/master/wav
5 - I did the encoding tests using FREEDV and recording the audio sent to the TRANSCEIVER to later decode the files as in the previous point.

We have managed to maintain a QSO in 14,130 kHz LSB 700C mode. live with Rodolfo LU1ACO and Gerardo LU8DNO on November 18, 2020, 13:30 UTC. Iused my low perfomance notebook.

Regards, Juan LU1KJL.

That is very great news Juan.

Hope to make a contact with you soon.
