I installed FreeDV yesterday , first use of it for many years .  Congrats on all the progress .  Set up was easy and I had a couple of QSOs.  Good to see Mel out there, still promoting the DV cause .

I have an issue though. The incoming data stream frequently stops , especially when someone is just beginning their RADEV1 transmission.  Not always when they are beginning, I would say 3 out of 4 times .  It also happens mid transmission some times. The frequency tav display freezes, on the waterfall the display s like streaky smudges . Stopping the modem and re-starting always fixes the issue, for a little while.  I am using Windows 11 Pro on a Intel(R) N95, 1700 MHz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s), 8gigs of RAM.  System resources appear fine when this happens.  this mini PC does well with  all other ham software .

I will install FreeDV on my Mac Mini M2 today and see how it does on that platform .

I don't have any hardware comparable to yours here Andy, but to get more
info could you open the Windows Resource Moinitor and then look at the
CPU tab on it and then make sure that the graph is set to display all 4
cores on a separate graph After that can you see what the loading on any
one core might be at the time that you are seeing the freeze?

I have never seen that here but I have an 8 core CPU at 4.3 GHz and 32
MB of RAM. FreeDV runs solid here on Windows 10 Pro and on openSUSE
Tumbleweed Linux.

Hi Andy,

Do you happen to hear any audio if you push the Analog button when this happens? Also, can you provide more information about your setup (i.e. radio being used, audio devices being used for playing back the decoded audio, etc.)

Thanks,

Well, after spending a couple of hours last night , trying everything,  it is working fine on my Windows machine tonight.  I also install on the Mac Mini and it works there also . On the Windows machine all 4 cores were being used , 43% utilization  2.63 GHz speed . About the same as yesterday .
FYI, Yaesu 710 , using USB Audio Device  (Silicon Labs) , Blue Yeti Mic.

I will keep an eye on things .

Thanks,

Andy,

What was the max utilization on any one core, not the overall?

In other words, if you had 4 cores and one core was maxed out at 100% on
a thread that was critical and then if you looked at the overall
utilization that would come out at 25%. However you would still have one
maxed out core and not enough CPU power.
