Hi All,

Coincidentally, as I have only just joined this Group, I find that the previous message relates exactly to my own issue.

I have literally just come to FreeDV and with a similar set-up to Rob/PD0NMO, I also cannot get an encoded signal from my TS480.

I am using a relatively well spec'd Dell Win10 laptop and an XGG Comms Digimode adapter.

The 'Frm Mic' and 'Frm Radio' TABS both show a modulated speech waveform, but there is nothing going out in the way of a signal.

I've attached a  (very) rough sketch of how everything is hooked up and hope that someone can see a mis-configuration somewhere.

Robin/G8VVY.

Hi Robin,

Something that may be worth trying is going to Tools->CAT and PTT Config and changing "PTT uses" to "CAT via Data port". Some radios (mainly older Kenwoods) will use the microphone attached to the radio instead of the data port if you use "CAT":

Or if you're already set to "CAT via Data port", try just "CAT" instead. Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Hi Robin

Not 100% sure how you have configured everything but from the info provided I believe the correct config should be as below.

Tools/Audio config,

Receive Tab
Input to Computer from Radio                                           "Microphone (USB audio Device)"
Output from Computer to Speaker/Headphones           "Speakers /Headphones (Realtek Audio)"

Transmit Tab

Input From Microphone to Computer                               "Microphone Array (Realtek Audio)"
Output from Computer to Radio                                       "Speakers (USB Audio Device)"

Hi Mooneer and Peter!

Thanks both for coming back to me.

Mooneer; you were absolutely correct in your comment about the CAT routing. It's not very descriptive;
"sending CAT controls via the Data port", but it certainly did the trick! I guess it means it doesn't try
to segregate switching and data and somehow lose the data in the process.

I checked my settings Peter and they were exactly as you had suggested; that's what made me think
it must be something relatively straightforward somewhere in settings.

I had my first FreeDV QSO about 5 minutes back and received a good signal report.

It certainly cuts through all of the current Contest activity that's on HF!

Take care both and stay safe

Cheers and beers.
Robin/G8VVY.
