I'm new to this forum, but not to FreeDV. If this question's already been asked, apologies - I did do a search and couldn't find it.

I'm running a Flex 8600 with a Pi5, which works well. I noticed a post on Github describing Waveform support for the Flex radios (link posted below) which suggests that a waveform is available that can be directly loaded by the Flex waveform manager. However, the link provided just goes to the 2.2.1 download page, which doesn't have a link to such a waveform.

So, my question is: Is such a waveform available, and, if so, where can I find it? I could, of course, be completely misunderstanding the Github post.

Thanks, Keith

Keith,

MAJOR kudos to Flex for creating this new Docker Container option into the 4.2.xx release. This is the magic glue to make all of this possible.

The Flex Waveform for FreeDV has not been formally released, just yet.

Please be watching for it, literally any day now. It’s extremely close. Once released, you will see the announcement, right here in this reflector.

A few of us have been putting it through its paces with excellent results in early testing.

This is what the Docker Waveform container will look like, when you install the Docker version of the FreeDV waveform into the 8000/Aurora series radios.

Unfortunately, this will ONLY be possible with the 8000/Aurora radios at this time. There’s just not quite enough CPU and Memory resources available in the 6000 series radios.

Once installed, you will see two NEW modes to choose from like USB and LSB, but they will be FDVU and FDVL.

Select the mode, ensure that DAX is NOT turned on, and your ready to go, just that easy.

This will allow you to use ANY mic choices you use today for normal SSB, like a local mic on your PC, or the local mic connected to the radio, your Ipad, IOS cell phone, or even AetherSDR, and several of the other many client choices we have today.

Hope that helps,

Walter/K5WH

Walter,

Thanks for that, it does help – if only to stop me looking for it (for now)!

Sounds like it’ll be very similar to how I use it with the Raspberry Pi, but it’ll be good to release my Pi5 to use for other things, and have the 8600 able to do the job “stand alone”.

I’ll keep an eye out for it!

Yes indeed.

The operational side of this will be exactly like we have been doing with the RPI for some time now.

A couple key enhancements right away, is that with this loaded into the radio directly, it’s certainly performing faster, and to me, the audio quality appears to be cleaner.

That’s not a scientific difference, just my high level observation at this point. 😊
