The biggest Sunday morning south east Australia FreeDV net so far this morning with 19 stations. Not everyone could transmit but I'm counting them anyway.

VK2DWG, VK2KNC, VK3AWA, VK3JF, VK3KR, VK3KEZ, VK3PCC, VK3SRC, VK3YV, VK1EJ, VK5LN, VK4BAP, VK5RM, ZL2TJM, VK2BLQ, VK3KVA, VK7DIK, VK3IK.

Great to talk with everyone and sorry I'm such a clutz at running the net. I need to figure out a better to run it than working through a changing list.

Peter,

Yes, nice turnout.

You might try Linux version of netlogger.  https://netlogger.org/

Hi Peter,
Why not just ask any stations wishing to speak in the net to add a
number in the reporter Msg starting with yourself as '01'.

If everyone, or at least you sort by the Msg column, then everyone is
displayed in order.

Even better is to ask them to display e.g.:
07 Joe Melbourne (no leading spaces!)

If they do not want to transmit they just add Name & Location and no
number, since digits sort above text they all appear at the bottom.

If any station drops out the list is still in order.

We use this in our (smaller) UK 60m afternoon nets and we have no need
of a 'net controller' since its clear to everyone who comes next.

Of course you do need to use the Track by frequency feature in freedv to
keep a clean display.

Have fun with FreeDV,
Barry

Thanks Barry,

I have another net this morning. I'm going to try writing a list of stations as I see them on reporter and working through that list like a normal net. New stations will be added to the end of my list. Part of the problem with using the reporter list is that people come and go (and the dopey net controller forgets where he's up to).

People do often put "RX only" or similar in the list but I like to acknowledge them anyway.

I've tried sorting by call - which puts all the VK stations together or sorting by distance.

Thanks for your suggestions.

We regularly announce that if anyone wants to speak they will be called
in turn if they add the next number to their Msg text.

This was one of the main reasons for initially suggesting the Msg column
in the first place. :)

If people leave, the list always stays in the correct order. There is
rarely any confusion.
Anyone can switch to listening only by removing their message number,
after which they will not be called again.

Recommend that they just put names in the Msg if they are reporting and
only listening, so they don't sort above the transmitting stations.

If you work as I suggest above, the only stations showing at the top of
the reporter list will be the users on that exact frequency with index
numbers in their messages.

If you want less work, you can ask the net to always pass it to the next
in the list, then its only when two numerically adjacent stations can't
hear each other that you will need to help out :)

I hope that helps,

Cheers
