Win 10 Pro, i5 laptop with adequate space.

Although FreeDV 2.2 installed, it was not stable. Application would stop/abruptly close/disappear by clicking on various functions such as Start Modem and others.
Tried uninstalling old 2.1 and then reset to defaults in 2.2. Uninstalling 2.2/Reinstalling, resetting again, no luck.

Gave up, uninstalled 2.2 and reinstalled 2.1 , and reset to defaults, and I still had instability.

I guess I need a list of folders FreeDV uses so that I can completely delete everything, and hopefully that will fix. Strange since 2.1 has been rock solid running continuously 24/7 for months.

 Any suggestions appreciated !

Fwiw I installed 2.2 on a Linux Mint (Xfce ver.) machine and it was a butter smooth install and (almost) good operation but alas it was a very old underpowered PC so it lagged over time, but decode audio was good.
Could not get an Ubuntu install to be stable however, oddly.

Love the new 2.2 features so hoping I can make work somehow.

Just curious where your Python version is on a windows and Linux?

Python version 3.13 runs solid on openSUSE Tumbleweed.

I'll have to dig that up, but that points me in the python direction. I think I'll just wipe everything python and try another 2.2 install.

Thank you

BTW on Windows and macOS, FreeDV has its own version of Python (currently 3.14.2) that it uses. I'd make sure you don't have anything Python specific in your environment variables so that the FreeDV version of Python isn't accidentally overridden.

Scott: Besides the folder in C:\Program Files, all configuration is in the Registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\freedv. Reset to defaults in the app should reset all the keys there, but you can try deleting the top level key just in case.

I deleted/uninstalled everything python I could find, tidy'd up my path env, and tried both 2.2 and 2.1 again.

2.2 : loaded and ran "ok" however in very short order (a few minutes) the FreeDV Audio lagged behind by 30 seconds. (This was an issue the first time around but I failed to mention in my initial post.) I would make a bandwidth change directly at the rig or kill the audio and would see the change on the waterfall 30 seconds later. Interesting note the waterfall is easily 2 to 3 times faster fall rate compared to 2.1.
I saw this same audio lag in Linux Mint 2.2 install and assumed it was a processing power issue, but utilization of CPU on this Win 10 laptop (actually an i7) is under 50 % and none of the 8 cores are even close to 100%.

So I uninstalled 2.2 , rebooted and loaded 2.1, restore defaults.
2.1 is back to running perfectly stable and zero lag, so I'm happy to continue with it since it just works incredibly well.

Thank you

Hi Scott,

Re: waterfall--can you send a screenshot of what your main window looks like? I did make some tweaks around there between 2.1 and 2.2 to fix another bug so I wonder if that's related to the problem. If you push the Analog button on 2.2 and then try to adjust something on the radio side, is there also a significant delay before you hear any change from your speakers?

Thanks,
