Did a search but did not find similar.

- FreeDV 2.1

- For Mode RadeV1 only: (other modes do not do this)

- Win 10 Pro stick PC

Here are the symptoms:
1. Audio pulses or cuts out 4 to 5 times per seconds.
2. Stations sound like they are talking in slow motion.
3. Audio in between cutouts is extremely clear.
4. After stopping modem audio continues to play for a long time.
5. Same choppiness and slow for playback of sample RADEV1 wav file, so not a USB converter side issue.

FreeDv CPU utilization 60%
Overall 80%

It's not a particularly powerful Stick PC so maybe just underpowered for the FreeDV app? However the other modes decode without chop or slow motion.
Figured I'd run this past the community in case someone had same issue.

Thanks in advance

Scott,

I think your stickPC is way underpowered to run Rave..   Maybe a laptop would be a better choice, in my opinion..

Dudley,

I think you're right. I was hoping since it's "just audio" and receive-only and the only thing I'm trying to do it might handle it. Comes close. Maybe when the RadeV2 is all C library it will run?
Mostly I've just been pushing the limits on these tiny Azulle Stick PCs to see what can be done for IOT / remote rig control, SSTV and digital modes such as FT8/JS8CALL/FreeDV.
And the answer is everything I've tried, except RadeV1 :(

I should be able to dig up an i5 at least to assign to this.

Thanks again

at First   check if all soundcards are set to same resolution  and sampling speed
resampling (cause one set to 44,1 and another set to 48kS) may eat up a lot of CPU power

Sigi,

Thanks good suggestion! I did have some mismatched but unfortunately after matching everything on both the FreeDV and sound cards side there was no improvement. I tried setting all to both 44100 16bit and 48000 16 bit (mono).

It's probably a lost cause lol.

Thanks again!

Unfortunately there's no ETA on RADEV2, but there may be room for some improvement in V1 by upgrading the version of Python in use to 3.14 (we're using 3.12 on the Windows and macOS versions). Link to some general Python benchmarks for info:  https://blog.miguelgrinberg.com/post/python-3-14-is-here-how-fast-is-it. Upgrading is fairly low priority, however, but if someone wants to try it the source code is on GitHub :)
