  1. I have a xiego g90 connected via the DE19 interface, using the default g90 hamlib settings - but when I Start FreeDV it immediately changes to the FreeDV frequency, jumps into TX mode. Can someone using a g90 share the correct settings, please? (Note: I'm using Linux but don't think that should matter.) Thanks!

Hi David,

Do you see any different behavior if you go into Tools->Options->Rig Control and disable mode changes (i.e. only allow frequency and PTT to be controlled)?

Thanks,

No change.

Also, I read somewhere that the CI-V cable from the DE19 should go to the Data port in back, rather than the Mic port on the side of the front.

And, I see in the FreeDV setup - the default for the g90 is Cat via Data - is that correct?

Anything else I should check, please?

Thanks!

Sorry ... I shouldn't have typed "mic port" but rather "communications port" on the front side.

Hi David,

Do you have the G90 working with any other ham radio apps (e.g. WSJT-X)? If so, it might be helpful to show screenshots from those apps on how you set it up so that we can provide settings on FreeDV that should match up.

Thanks,

I don't but after I figure out what I broke whjle setting up some vlan's - I'll try some settings from a few months ago when I had fldigi working.

I think I found it. Messed around with flrig/fldigi, got some ideas, then returned to FreeDV. Radio Device: alsa_card.pci-0000_00_1f.3, Hamlib CAT control, Xiegu G90, /dev/tty/USB3, 19200, PTT Uses: RTS, Frequency and Mode.

Also, DE19 CIV line connected to the front side Communication port (not the back).

Not quite working fully, yet. I'm not getting audio on TX and when I messed with the audio settings, I lost RX audio as well. I'lll share when I have those settings right (though some of them may be specific to the computer.)

OK, weirdness ... g90 is in USB mode (set on rig). When I Start FreeDV, then press PTT and tap on the mic - I can see the audio spikes on the FreeDV display - but zero power output on an external meter. (Note: With the DE19 disconnected, and I key the mic in AM mode - I have power output. So I know that the rig is working.) Any thoughts, please?

When FreeDV is open the "Level" indicator on the left is filled and says "Too High" in red. I can't find any place to adjust it.

Does the G90 have a "data" mode? Any difference if you set your radio to use it?

Your question led e to a couple of pages then this one https://xiegu.eu/2025/05/29/g90-firmware-v1-80-complete-digital-mode-audio-enhancements/ I just checked and my rig is Base: 1.79 and App: 1.80 I thought I read somewhere that they should match. And, they're dates 2022 an 2023 - so, clearly, not the April 2025 firmware. Now it seems that my best next step is a firmware update to the rig. Thanks.

Firmware updated ... sigh ... no joy. I'll try some different settings ... although I'm pretty sure I've tried them all ... tomorrow ...

FYI: l-d (LSB) and u-d (USB) modes are selectable on the rig but they appear to have no impact.

Hi David,

Do you have pavucontrol installed on your system? If so, here are a few things you can check with it:

1. Make sure the G90's audio devices aren't inadvertently muted.
2. When transmitting, pavucontrol should indicate that audio is coming out. For example, note the shorter blue bar at the bottom for the FreeDV_Computer_To_Radio entry:

Do I want just the pavucontrol add on or PAMix - Pulseaudio terminal mixer based in pavucontrol

"PAMix is an ncurses/curses pulseaudio mixer in C++ similar to pavucontrol designed to run in the terminal, it allows you to control both the volume of hardware devices and of each playback stream separately."

Just pavucontrol is fine.

(It was, apparently installed by default in MX Linux.)
It doesn't show a "FreeDV" entry under any of the tabs. It just shows "ALSA plug-in [python3.11]"

Hi David,

You'll need to push the Start button in FreeDV for it to appear in pavucontrol. Then you can push PTT in FreeDV and check to see if pavucontrol is actually seeing TX audio coming from it. Let me know if you need additional help with the latter.

Thanks,

It will be a few days before I can do anything more with this. I'm replacing my Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1 and external monitor with a Dell Latitude 12 Rugged 7202 tablet. (The display is larger and clearer & eliminates the need for the external monitor.) I'll post when I get everything reinstalled and ready to test. Thanks for the assistance so far!

OK, couldn't wait. I loaded on my other Dell tablet and am seeing this. It looks pretty but when I press PTT there's no RF output.

Hi David,

I think you need to use the following audio devices (snipped to avoid having to type the entire thing):

Output From Computer to Radio: alsa_output.usb-C-Media..-00.analog-stereo
Input To Computer From Radio: alsa_input.usb-C-Media...-00.mono-fallback

Thanks,
