I've been seeing some odd behavior with SmartSDR v4.1.5 and FreeDV 2.2.1.

I suspect it's related to DIGL mode but I'm having trouble tracking down exactly where the failure is occurring.

Essentially, SmartSDR seems to default to the wrong skirts for the 2K filter on DIGL.

In DIGU, the 2K filter starts at 500 and ends at 2500 and is 2K wide between the top of the shoulders.  That makes sense to me.

However the 2K filter in DIGL runs from 1210 to 3210, again with 2K between the shoulder tops.  That seems wrong to me!

If I 'fix' the parameters with the mouse, they default back to the strange values later.

I can't decide whether this is an issue in the SmartSDR software, or if FreeDV somehow sets a persistent filter setting that I can't fix.  I'm leaning toward SmartSDR as the problem, because this seems to happen with the 1K filter too.  I thought I fixed it with a factory reset, but now I'm not sure, because two resets later and the wrong values persist.

I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this and if so, did they find a solution?

Hi Brock,

I'm not sure what's causing it but I can say that FreeDV itself shouldn't be setting any filters, only the mode.To rule it out, though, there's an option in Tools->Options->Rig Control to prevent FreeDV from changing the mode; enabling that will cause FreeDV to only change frequency and trigger PTT.

Thanks,

Thanks Mooneer.  I had tried the setting to allow frequency change only, to no effect.  So I posted in a Flex group and learned that the DSP button on the slice flag drops down an option to set NR, NB and 'Offset'.  On all bands, that Offset was set to 2210 for DIGL and 1500 for DIGU.  That was evidently the issue.  I don't know why this would apparently be the factory preset, or why the center offset for a filter would be located with NR and NB (and not with the actual filter settings themselves!).  But regardless, this seems to have been the issue, so if anyone else runs into the problem, maybe this thread will save them a few minutes or hours of trial and error!

Try setting the filter to 1500 and then hit TAB. That should save the setting in the Flex for the slice you are using. Flex defaults to 2210 I think for RTTY, at least that's what they told me.I'll forward the ticket I receive from them if I can find it.

Good luck!
