Last night I loaded a Pi 5 with the build for the flex system. Her is my setup, flex 6700, flex Tuner Tgxl, flex amp PGxl. I notice the following, when the PI was online. The SWR indication on the Flex Smart SDR program window for the TGXL show swr as 3 Plus all the way to the right in red. Stop the Pi and every thing goes back to normal most of the time. Some times the 6700 locks up when the Pi is disconnected.

Lets unpack this.

The high SWR is a failure of the TG-XL/PG-XL and Flex to communicate the antenna in use...so you do not get the correct tune solution.  Be sure to use the latest Flex and TG/PG firmware, and I have found starting the  TG and PG, after the Flex is booted up, ensures the necessary subscription requests and status messages set up the communications between all three.

Next, Flex lockup when running, or not, the Flex AppImage.  When you run the AppImage, you will see the new modes, FDVU and FDVL.  If something happens to ki$$ the AppImage PID, Flex becomes upset because it wants to continue with the new modes.....so it takes itself off line.  The solution is to first, change modes so neither of the FDV modes are in use by Flex.  Then, if you want to stop the FDV AppImage, use the control C combination to stop the AppImage...This will gracefully allow Flex and the AppImage to stop the waveform.

Hi Alan,

In theory the AppImage is supposed to automatically set the slice with FDVU/FDVL to USB or LSB prior to exiting (assuming Ctrl-C, though regular kill should do it too as of the most recent version). If it's not actually doing that, we probably want to explore further and see what's going on.

Thanks,

not sure about changing the slice back to usb ot lab. but it regularly changes the swr display on the tuner section of smart sdr to all red bar. also noticed it will lock up the 6700 when the mastro is on line.

I don't have a Maestro or the Flex amplifier/tuner, unfortunately, so I can't test here. Have you tried Alan's suggestion of turning on the amp/tuner *after* the radio?

Today, I tried to determine if there was a sequence  of powering  on devices that would cause full scale swr reading. I tried a number of combinations of power on sequences. It appears random . I tried maybe 30 or more  combinations using the following Pi on and running free dv then (1)starting radio, then (2)sdr software, (3)then pgxl, then (4)tgxl, starting (5)tgxl software, and then (6) pgxl. software. I ran every combination with the Pi running, and then I loaded everything then started the Pi. I also started everything from the ground up all at once. No definite results but I did get it to run without the swr reading to be full scale and work.  What seemed to work most of the time but not always was the fresh start  turn everything on at once.
