An excellent rollup again this morning with some interesting conditions that seemed to improve and then decline during the net.

At first there was very little fading here but later I saw this interesting effect pictured here.

Another observation was that sometimes the measured SNR does not match up with the quality of the recovered voice. Sometimes SNR is very low, even negative, and speech is perfect. Other times SNR is good but speech is not good.

VK3EMI commented that he had trouble hearing people when SNR was -7dB or below! Fair enough I thought.

@Mooneer, I asked Robert VK3CKY about the non-playback of recordings on Windows in version 2.1 and he said he'd figured out that it was fixed by changing sample rates - which is what I think you'd figured out.

Stations participating - not all heard - VK2VCO, VK3BRT, VK3CKY (portable), VK3JCO, VK3KEZ, VK3KQT, VK3SRC, VK3YV, VK5AG, VK5KVA, VK6POP, VK5AV, VK3UBK, VK5COL, VK3EMI, VK3PCC, VK5LN, VK5GY, VK2DWG and me VK3TPM.

I wonder if it's worth colour-coding the SNR bar to give a visual cue
as to the likely quality expected at a given level?

This may be considered a dumb question, but what frequency (ies) were used? I am getting back onto FreeDV after a 2-year break.

Dieter,

sorry for my slow response. The various regular nets are listed under "Who can I talk to?" on https://freedv.org
We try to use 7.045Mhz but if it's in use will go elsewhere. If you watch qso.freedv.org you can see where people are.

I made a few contacts on 7045 kHz but presently, the heavy solar wind has seen to it, that even 40m high-angle propagation is poor or non-existent.

I want to alert FreeDV users about Klaus, DU1KG. He is on 10m or 15m in the local (DU1) daytime and evenings/early-nights on 20m. We had a few FreeDV QSOs with excellent quality ob both 10m and 20m.

Well,
I've "hacked" OpenWebRX to decode RADEv1 both USB and LSB. Please try it.
