What does everyone's waterfall look like?  Mostly blue, 50-50 green blue, ...

Noticing gain structure is incredibly important.  Seems as though I lost what I had working.

Where is your RF gain?

Thank you.

The first is where I usually run things. The one with blue, I have to reduce radio output volume to lower and widen out the filter to get it to look closer to yours.
It sounds like your input device from radio on the OS side needs increased by maybe as much as 50% if turning up your radio volume doesn't do it. (Some rigs have a somewhat fixed output unless you go into the menu to find the Line out level etc)
I have found FreeDV auto adjusts the waterfall to a great extent when levels are in range.

Oh and you asked about RF gain, well on my rig it's set to 1, the lowest setting because that's where I get the best S2N ratio on my G90 SDR rig. BUT I'm also using the rigs headphone out jack instead of the official "digital" line out (to enable remote vol control from FLRig), so I pick up some overall AF side gain there.
Different USB audio in converters have varied gain structures and modes. Line in vs Mic level in for example. ALC if an option should be OFF.  If all else fails try a different converter. This mode can be a lot of trial and error to find the perfect combo for a given setup.
