I am trying to help a friend set up FreeDV on his Flex 6300 .Ā  I have set up Flex for a multitude of ham software but failed in my attempt to help my friend today .Ā  Can someone post screenshots of their FreeDV set up for a Flex ?Ā  Ā I thought it would be straight forwardĀ  but apparently not .Ā  I tried without CAT and with CAT Hamlib, no CAT control for band switching and I did not see any sign of DAX TX in the transmit drop-down .Ā  I am trying to set him up via AnyDesk .

Hi Andy,

Coincidentally, Flex just put out a video about setting up FreeDV:Ā https://youtu.be/7-IcmVazPf8?si=dWuZXGvOTx5ZRjpV.Ā

For me, though, I use "DAX Audio RX 1" for the radio RX device and "DAX Audio TX" for the radio TX device in Tools->Audio Config. For CAT control, I have a TCP port set up in SmartSDR CAT and simply use "Flex 6xxx" for the rig model and "localhost:5001" for the port name in Tools->CAT and PTT Config (assuming 5001 is the port number set up in CAT). Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Thanks.Ā  Interesting that Mike uses VB Voicemeter , I am used to him always using the DAX stuff.Ā  I'll see if my ham friend has VB Audio on his PC .

Like Mooneer said, there is a great video to walk through all of the settings there.

Ā

If you just want a quick glance at the settings, here’s a couple screenshots.

Ā

Ping me if you have any questions.

Had a QSO with VA3MW, Mike on FreeDV this evening.Ā  RADE audio was sounding great so his set up is working fine.Ā  He was using the Flex AURORA remotely and running about 450 watts.Ā  Ā I think he may have forgot to set the AGC to FAST in the video.

I replied to Mike’s walkaround and it’s nice to see that the guys from flex realized at least, that there is a demand.šŸ˜‰

I haven't heard anyone talking about reducing the TX BW to 750-2250, which is so nice and easy with Flex and every other SDR radio. This makes the FreeDV signal comfortable for everyone else.
I often see these ultrawide FreeDV QRO signals nowadays, which makes me question the point of using high power in digimodes.šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«
Of course Flex will push their new Aurora stuff, but 450W in FreeDv …?😌 Better clean than strong?

Thanks Walter .Ā  I JUST read this AFTER spending some time unsuccessfully setting up my friend VE3RIA's 6300 with FreeDV .Ā  We are close , we heard Mel on 20M todayĀ  but it appears we have VE3RIA's headset mic routed incorrectly since nothing from his mic showed in FreeDV 's advanced TX tab.Ā  Ā I set it to his "logi headset" but in FRM MIC window nothing was showing , his Flex was transmitting however.Ā  Ā I found Mike's walkaround awfully confusing with all his Voicemeter stuffĀ  and even with the ability to pause Youtube things were too quick.Ā  I found Mooneer's video on FreeDV and machine learning to be easier to followĀ  .Ā  I will study Walter's screenshots and see where the issue is .
It may be his headset mic.

Stefan,

Ā

Yes, the wave form ā€œgrassā€ could use some mowing down.Ā  I am sure this will be accomplished in future releases.Ā  Most SDR radios filter it out well, but other popular radios Ā maynot effectively.Ā  And amplifiers will grow the grass even more if not filtered at the transmitter.

Ā

I’ve worked several stations taking about TX BW filtering and they have recommended the low and high cut filter frequencies as you have given here.

Ā

New users may not realize just how robust the mode is at low power levels compared to SSB that may need an amplifier to work the same station.Ā  It is part of the learning curve for a new mode.

Ā

The AURORA properly configured for FreeDV RADE is neighbor-friendly even at high power levels.

The APD filter is prettyĀ  amazing for this on the Flex 4.01 release.Ā Ā
