FREEDV REMOTE OPERATION

Hi All,

I operate a remote club station in Wisconsin from my shack in Australia.

The remote radio is a Flex and I would like to know what issues I would face 

getting FreeDV fully operational across the remote link.

The connection uses WireGuard VPN.  I have been able to get FT8

running and made an assumption that FreeDV should also work.

Initial trials have the RX working but CAT and TX audio are a no go.

My question:-  is FreeDV capable of achieving my goal and if so, are there any ideas 

from members on how to setup FreeDV to achieve this?

This is so easy to do on a FlexRadio.

Install a RPI4 or 5 near the radio on the same network.

Run the  AppImage on the PI connected to the Radio. You don't have to build or compile anything.  The AppImage runs just like a program on the RPI.

It connects directly to the Radio  as a WaveForm and shows up as mode just like CW or SSB as FDVU and FDVL.  

Users use a Mic like they are using SSB and it works wonderfully over SmartLink.  I've been running it for some time now on the AU-520 Aurora FlexRadio.  

It removes all the hardwork of PC integration.

Hi Daryl,

If you're using the regular SmartSDR DAX and CAT programs, TX and CAT control should work without any issues. Can you send screenshots of Tools->Audio Config (both tabs) as well as Tools->CAT and PTT Config? That should help determine if there's anything obvious missing.

THANKS Michael and Mooneer,

Since my initial post, I have been able to get RX & TX audio working.

Also,  PTT is working as it should.

However, CAT is not working with all frequencies in the FreeDV GUI

showing as red.

I have attached the relevant screenshots hoping you can easily spot 

the problem with my setup.

Hi Daryl,

Can you uncheck the OmniRig option from "CAT and PTT Config" and let me know if that works any better? Only one of OmniRig/serial PTT/Hamlib can be enabled at a time.
