Analog mode = operate "regular" SSB?

Win 10 platform, latest FreeDV release. 

 Currently, when switching to analog mode in FreeDV, the internal audio routing is correctly changing from:

- routing from the radio to the FreeDV codec, to 

- routing from the radio directly to the specific speaker/headphone out, to hear if there are SSB stations using the frequency etc.

  Can this be done for the microphone as well when going between Analog and digital mode?

 It would be AMAZING to be able to KEEP the FreeDV app opened up, but still possible to make analog SSB contacts simply by changing to Analog mode. Otherwise it is a bit of a mess closing FreeDV and re-doing the audio settings. 

 In my testing it does not seem to be doing this currently, in case it's already supposed to be doing the mic re-routing. (I didn't see any reference in the manual that it should be). I could maybe restore a saved FreeDV configuration, but if that requires restarting FreeDV (as the manual seems to imply) then that could be a little too clunky. But certainly worth a test if nothing else.

 Seems like it might be a fairly easy feature add?

Hi Scott,

By default, FreeDV switches from DIGU/DIGL to USB/LSB when you switch into Analog mode. Depending on the radio, that might cause TX audio to come from your radio's microphone instead of your computer's. You can try disabling mode changes by going to Tools->Options->Rig Control and seeing if that works any better.

It does indeed do the very thing you’re asking about, as I use it myself from to time.

 

You do not have to close out FreeDV. It’s designed to do exactly what your looking for, so you can instantly jump from digital to analog, and back to digital.

I have found that with my ICOM  IC705, if I switch to "Analog" I can still use the computer mic for transmitting.  

If I "Stop Modem", I can use the radio microphone, but the radio goes to whatever frequency it was on before FreeDV started.

If I'm using the ICOM Marine IC-M802, and it was OFF before starting FreeDV, when I Stop Modem, it shuts the radio off.  I guess you can't have everything!

  That would make sense but my mode is staying on U-D when I switch to analog mode.

 I'll try it with a local-to-the-PC USB mic instead of the VB Virtual Audio Cable that I'm currently using, which must not be compatible with the microphone rerouting that others report to be working. But I pretty much always use the VB Cable and remote operation, so I may have to just live with it.
