Weird receive decoding issue requiring plus freq offset.

I recently upgraded to the latest public release of FreeDV 2.3.

Was using 2.1 for a long time and it performed flawlessly.

During the FreeDV net I was not decoding any stations, and at first assumed it was just bad atmospheric conditions. Usually I can hear just about everyone with ver 2.1.

 I also observered I was getting really good signals on the waterfall, but no or tiny bits of decode. At some point just for kicks I set the RIT to +50 Hz and then stations were decoding no problem. Set back to 0 and no decode.  For sure, I had not set the RIT offset previously when using 2.1.  Plus, I can very obviously hear SSB stations that now sound off frequency when RIT is set to +50, and normal sounding when at 0.

 No hardware changed. No radio setting changed. Is there something in the current decoder that could account for this?

Makes no sense at all.

Transmit seems normal and I can hear my decoded audio on Dudley's setup. (No XIT set).

 I may go back to 2.1 and see if this issue goes away, but the RIT as a workaround is ok just to keep me on the latest with all the newer features.

  Yes! 

  I never looked at/used that feature before. When I double clicked it , it then started to automatically tune to what it perceived as the FreeDV center frequency. 

 Is there a auto-tune on-off function then? It must have been locked at the offset. It shows "middle click to set center" but I can't even do a middle click afaik, especially through the remote desktop app I use. (RustDesk self hosted). I'm wondering if a "Auto" mode highlighted feedback indicator would be helpful or maybe it's just more or less obvious if auto is happening anyway. (Now that I know what to look for ha)

 But yeah that's it. I can RIT all around now and it finds the center and decodes perfectly now.

Hi Scott,

By default the FreeDV tuning line is set to 1.5 kHz. FreeDV is able to deviate a little bit in either direction from the tuning line (i.e. if a station is slightly off frequency) but I don't think it's able to deviate that much for RADEV1. When it's able to receive a signal it'll draw a second line indicating the actual center of the transmission. I will note that this feature did disappear for a few revisions once RADEV1 came out but was brought back recently, so it likely used an old setting that you had.
