OK, fair enough, they have to make some money somehow and ads is the way they've decided to do it. (I'd argue they could have been a lot more imaginative on that front, but anyway.)

I've kept myself logged out of Twitter in the browser for this very reason, ever since they first started muttering about this sort of thing some time last year. 

If you're also less than happy with the web experience, I'd recommend the Yorufukurou client too - https://sites.google.com/site/yorufukurou/home-en
