Can anyone recommend a local (Bath or thereabouts) out-of-warranty mac repair wizard with a stock of scavenged iMac parts? Suspected knackered GPU  [24" iMac early 2009]. Have been told: a) it's eminently replaceable & parts are available via authorised service suppliers ('Genius' in mac store); b) it's vintage, therefore obsolete & no spares available = buy a new machine (farpoint).
I'd be grateful for a third opinion that preferably supports the Genius' view.
thanks

Years ago, Clive Sweeting did that sort of thing. I've no idea if he still does, but his website suggests so. Might be worth giving him a call.

There's a place at the bottom of the M32 in Bristol that have been
reasonable for older mac repairs. http://appleservice.co.uk/Home.html

Having said that I did call them a few weeks ago for a quote to
replace the trackpad in my wifes 17in MBP and they quoted £180, Apple
store did it in 24hrs for £60! By the sounds of things though you've
already been to the Apple Store.
