Are there examples out there of community websites that aggregate
content from diverse local blogs? If not in the U.K., the United
States.

What are the best examples of online magazines that aggregate content
from diverse sources and might these be appropriate/adapted to
community/hyperlocal-generated content?

Are there cute visual ways in which network online activity is mapped
that may inspire us in visualizing online network activity in
Butetown?

Are there any examples of Facebook groups or other groups within
online social media networks that conciously seek to act as a hub or
node for other online activity?

What makes a person poke become a 'digital migrant' - i.e. poke about
a group or network that shares physical experiences but perhaps not
cultural ones? How to encourage this? Or is this just *not* how groups
are born and thrive?

Answers on a digital postcard here greatly appreciated!

In answer to your first question we are working on just that for
Norfolk County Council based on their library catchment areas. Very
early days at mo but should be able to demo next Friday if anyone is
interested.

Not sure about the answers to your other questions...

David - great questions for the really creative approach you are fostering. Is there any way we/you could blog this or otherwise open up so we can pull in ideas from a wider group (no disrespect to all present)?

It's just the sort of thing we'll be exploring on socialbysocial.wordpress.com and Openrsa.ning.com once we get our socialbysocial-local group going.

Could we do it as an anonymous but real scenario ... rather as we did for the Slaghampton game?

That is, describe the anon scenario, then pose the questions? Glad to help facilitate if it appeals

David, thanks for this. OK. is posting the question on Digital
Engagement the best place? or would you recommend somewhere else? i.e.
posting a comment with question on someone else's blog? if so, who?

also I plan to ask June Holley at Network Weaving - http://networkweaver.blogspot.com/.
will post something there soon.

when and if u have a moment, pl cruise through my bookmarks on
delicious - http://delicious.com/addictive_picasso/digitalbutetown - i
wonder whether there are any folks there who might be worth connecting
with? Would Amy Ward be useful to ask?

Hi David - good idea to do it at digital engagement since there's a post there already. We can then repost/promote

Hi David B

I have been researching some analogue tools for helping to map our existing social networks for another project.  One of the things I have found is a really low tech methodology which serves an ideal visual entry point for different groups looking to co-operate.

This may not be that helpful for the meeting on 24th, but it may be helpful moving forward further along, as it aims to identify influential members of the community who may be helpful in developing bridging social capital and eventually with migration to any integrated or aggregating digital tools or platforms you may decide to develop.

The methodology they use in this example, which is based on the first instance on a interview process with community members,  I believe can be easily adapted to a wide range of uses.  The flickr stream and their instruction manuals are highly informative.

Hi,

I think EveryBlock is a hyperlocal platform worth checking out. I've
been thinking a lot recently about how it could be extended in all
sorts of interesting ways. It's built using the Django web framework.
I've done some work with Django myself, so extending EveryBlock
wouldn't be rocket science for me.

More generally, hyperlocal has been one of my interests for years.
One of my backburner projects is a hyperlocal website for the Creative
Cultural Industries sector in Brixton. I'm not very good at jumping
through local authority hoops, so never managed to get it off the
ground.

Regards,
Mamading.

Hi all

I've created a local communities group
http://net.digitalengagement.org/group/localcommunities

on the digitalengagement network - and you are all welcome. Not much
there yet, but I hope it can be a space for people interested in
social tech for community empowerment, democratic renewal ... ummm
general good stuff

any problems joining, let me know

David
