The Old Market is owned and run by Yes/No productions (an international production company, creators of STOMP and more recently a suite of large format, IMAX underwater films).    For BDF we are investigating how new technologies can improve theatre in 2015.  This year we are developing a show using Oculus Rift, commissioning augmented lampposts, hosting a data driven ballet amongst others. See the full programme here.

Off stage, we are hosting a series of events unpicking how we tell stories in 2015.  It is an opportunity for us to bring together makers/creatives from the games industry, PR/comms, theatre and academics..  All of whom tell stories in different ways.

'Story hack' will bring 4/5 people together for one day to explore stories, looking at Narrative framing, the agency of the audience member within interactive narratives, multi-platform storytelling and the role of subtext.  We hope to film four short responses from the hack for hosting online/sharing with other makers.

The idea is to cross pollinate ideas and practical skills from one creative industry to another.  How could the R&D process of game creators be informed by theatre practice?  Can PR and multi-platform/transmedia approaches to storytelling enhance how we sell our products?  We hope the day might set the path for future collaborations between our creative industries which could lead to funding the development of new ideas - or the resources to further explore the possibilities.

We are looking for a mid-career game designer/creator/storyteller to join the hack.  The commitment would be for one day of your time in Brighton for which there is a small fee available. Story Hack will take place wb 21 Sept (date to be fixed depending on group availability).
