In this online talk, Rodrigo will discuss translation as decolonial practice through her recent translations of Tamil memoir and poetry. 
This talk is the second in a series on Tamil in Translation hosted by the JHI Working Group on Tamil Studies. 
Nedra Rodrigo is the founder of the Tamil Studies Symposium at York University, and the bilingual, inclusive Tamil-centric art space: The Tam Fam Lit Jam. She is a published poet, translator and academic; organizer of community workshops; and curator of cultural events. Her published translations include the poetry of Cheran, V.I.S. Jayapalan and Puthuvai Ratnathurai in 'Human Rights and the Arts in Global Asia' (Maryland: Lexington Books, Rowman, Littlefield and Brown Publishing Group, 2014 ); ‘In the Shadow of the Sword’ the Thamizhini memoir (SAGE Yoda Press, 2020); and ‘His Sacred Army’ and 'A Time of Questions' the first two volumes of the Kanavucirai quintet by Devakanthan (Mawenzi House, June 2021).
