Hi folks  --
A small group of us are considering what should be in a citation for digitized special collections materials (among other things). Some believe it should incorporate the name of the collection and the holding institution.  Possibly it might include such information as series or other container location.

I have two questions for you.

First:  can you provide examples for different types of content, and specific information that you think should be included for that kind of content, in the citation?  Audio, video, artifacts, images from scrapbooks, clips from newspapers, a drawing from a journal.... you get the picture.

Secondly:  can you tell us about the restrictions on citation support for major digital library software systems?   Some that come to mind are Fedora, DSpace, ContentDM, DLXS, XTF, BEPress, -- and I'm sure there are others.   If you use one of these (or something else) and can speak authoritatively on how citation information is supported (or can query your tech support to ask, and then relay the information), we would be grateful.

We need to know what our current limitations are, and also to what we should aspire.

Please respond to this list and tag your response "citations".
Thank you!
