as you may know, the 4C project team has been working on the beta version of the Curation Costs Exchange (CCEx) and I am happy to announce that it has been released this week!

We would very much appreciate it if you could take some moments to walk through the website and let us know what you think by using the feedback tool and the short survey (here). Please find all relevant information below.

All the best and thank you very much for your support,

The 4C project is delighted to announce that the beta version of the ‘Curation Costs Exchange’ (CCEx) website has been released.

Supporting smarter investments in digital curation by enabling knowledge transfer and cost comparisons between organisations, the CCEx is an online platform for the exchange of curation cost information. A crowd-sourced driven database for the submission and the sharing of cost data, the CCEx uses the costs data it gathers to provide automatic generation of results for the purposes of self-assessment, cost comparisons with peers and insights into the financial accounting and activity costs of other organisations.

We have already received some excellent feedback on the CCEx and that has helped us to create the beta version online now.

We would like to invite you to take part in this initial testing-period to help us gather even more valuable feedback to help make the CCEx the very best it can be, before the full version it goes live later this year.

à What will you test? There are two things that we’d like you to test drive:

  1. The website in general We’d like to know how you think it will help you to understand the costs of curation; how it will enable you to collaborate more closely with your peers; and how you think it will work as a convergence space for the digital preservation community.

  1. The Cost Comparison Tool – Within the ‘Compare Costs’ section of the CCEx, we’d like to know how easy you find the process of uploading and assessing your cost data, whether are there any barriers to you uploading and sharing your cost data, and whether there is anything we could add or take away to help you get the most out of this process.

Testing this part of the CCEx of course depends on your willingness to submit your cost data. The value of the CCEx is in the data it holds, so it relies on the support of organisations involved in the business of managing and investing in digital content to provide this – we would be delighted if you would be prepared to share this information with the CCEx.

As a contributor you would not just be supporting the 4C Project, but you would be able to undertake comparisons of cost data across organisations and borders - enabling increases in efficiency, better systems and processes and valuable exchanges of information between peers as you identify differences in practice.

All cost data shared with the 4C project will be treated confidentially and will be used solely for the purposes of building up data sets for the CCEx. Even as outputs of the CCEx, your data will remain anonymous.

à How to test? In order to make it easy to provide your thoughts on the CCEx, we have added a feedback tool which supports textual and visual feedback and allows you to highlight areas of interest, blackout spaces that could hold personal information, point to things and draw images… All you need to do is click this button at the bottom right of each page and start commenting:

Thank you for your help and support in making the CCEx a better experience for the entire digital curation community.

Kind regards
