Hello,

Just joined the network having found you via twitter.  Just in the planning stage of setting up our DL scheme, its a secodnary with approx 1000 pupils in Bolton.  Currently looking through all the fabulous examples of schemes you have all set up, want to make sure i am clear on what i am looking for before pitching it to the pupils and asking for applications, other staff have tried similar kinds of schemes but they have fallen flat, dont want the same thing to happen with this.  Although we are an outstanding school, we can be a bit old fashioned in some respects hence the need for DL scheme. Pretty clear on the overall vision of how i want it to work but really interested in ideas on how the scheme is working for others on a week to week basis??  thanks for all your good examples looking forward to getting started.

What is it that you're after Lindsay?

The application process is key IMHO. Also that students feel invested in. Rewards. Badges. Business cards are all helpful in this.

Agree with Mark, application process is key. You could have some ideas for things that you want them to lead on, but to be honest our digital leader sessions are subject to demand - what the teachers need support with, other students, new technologies that need embedding etc.
We can definitely use it as a topic for discussion during #DLChat though. It's always good to share ideas and I know that some teachers prefer to plan ahead for their DL sessions.

Hi Mark,
How to sell it to the pupils really to get them on board, want it to be seen as a worthwhile project and worth them investing the time. I have seen a lot of excellent examples in primaries and would like to see some from secondary, how they structure it i.e. how often they meet, how the training is structured for pupils then how they deliver it to staff. think i need a big launch and then as you say make the application process the key thing.  Also thinking of taking it to the school council to ask for their opinions on how it could be run.  Badges and business ideas are definitley a good idea i shall look in to that.

It does seem a bit like a chicken and an egg type of situation at the moment Sheli, how do i get pupils on board when i am not sure what i want them to do but wont find out what i want them to do until i have them on board.  Think will canvas a few pupils and school council unofficially then prepare a launch in assemblies then hopefully the applications will roll in then it will be a case of seeing where the demand takes us. Just good to have others opinions so thankyou.

It's not all about how big but a assurance that they are valued Nd recognised.

Badges were important.

We also had a two day leadership course.

Also we make sure that get to use their skills. Most recently tonight - Horror Ball videographers. They then get time to work on and refine their work, and display the content.

This week, the students showcased work from Olympics games in assemblies.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Kristian it all helps.  Like the idea of a leadership course will look in to that, sends a professional message.

Am going to put together a 'getting started' flow chart that links to examples of good practice. It would be great if someone could do that specifically for secondary, as mine will be primary biased. That may be more helpful (easier to follow?) than the websites. What do you think?
