So #DLchat tonight has concentrated on badges. There is a document here where badge ideas have been suggested. They need to have set criteria though. Please add your thoughts. Mike has quite rightly said that they may differ between key stages. Do we need separate lists? Please share your thoughts - it's easier with more words available!
If you know a way that these could be created and used universally (like open badges/Edmodo?) that would fabulous!

Really interested in developing badges as accreditation for commenting on 100WC & 5SC. My original need was for Yr10+ who I felt would need something for commenting. I have offered to produce a certificate but each school has it's own style so that would be quite time consuming. I've been in touch with ASDAN but they charge up to £6 per certificate. They did say they would waive the set up fee of £1050!!
I'm viewing badges in a similar way to scvout /guide badges where the oyungesters have to earn them. So they would be a step up from stickers on a jumper. I would like to award them for the Wrod Challenges as I think an external accrediation will hold more kudos.
Now that DLs have started commenting on 5SC I have thought about it slightly differently but I still think the same thing applies. Perhaps a shorter commitment time.
Anyway, really keen to get on board!

I have laminated badges worn on lanyards which the children wear when they are doing DL tasks.  They have said they would like badges which they could wear all the  time like the metal School council or Librarian badges which we have in school.  DLs are from years 5 and 6. Year 6 are called Digital Leaders and Year 5 are Digital Assistants.

I agree with everything said so far. I'm a DL at JHNCC and currently my main focus is to develop open badges in to a way we can use it for digital leaders. Ill always vote for open badges. That's not because Ive volunteered at mozilla since I was 8 (5 years) either.

Sheli, I'm currently trailing a system for open badges. As I mentioned in my email to you, I will send you the link when Ive finished. Cant finish until Monday, my server has gone down for whatever reason and Im not home to fix it.

Criteria for each KS is certainly needed. You won't catch a KS1 DL doing some of the things a KS2,3 or 4 DL does. Of course, same topics. Just different specifics.

I am currently in the mood of "bored" so I'll have a crack at the different criteria.

Fab stuff! Would be great to have your views on criteria for the badges! I am primary based, so have a different perspective.

Won't change anyone's views! Will have a close look at it tomorrow. Thanks very much for taking time to do it :-)
