Last Reminder: Worldwide nestor Community Survey 2026

Dear Colleagues,
With this mail we politely ask you to fill in the questionnaire for the next iteration of the worldwide Community Survey. This questionnaire is accessible via: https://zbw-umfrage.limesurvey.net/288372?lang=en.
It will be open until 30 April 2026.
This will be your last chance to present yourself in the 2026 iteration of the Community Survey!
We like to thank every community who has participated by now. We greatly appreciate your participation in our survey. With your participation you contribute to increasing visibility and transparency of digital preservation communities around the world and that will be useful information for you as well.
With your answers you support an initiative of nestor – the German competence network for the long-term archiving and long-term availability of digital resources. It’s important to fill in the new questionnaire in every iteration, in order to see if communities are still active and how communities develop over time.
In 2026 nestor launches a third iteration of a community survey to analyse the digital preservation communities worldwide once again. With this initiative we help to make this landscape more visible and transparent. nestor working group is cooperating with the Open Preservation Foundation (OPF). The OPF will create a search facility for the data from the nestor Community Profiles, called the ‘Digital Preservation Community Search”. The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) and OPF will support nestor in promoting both the survey and the meta-search functionality for its results as well.
To get an idea of the survey and it’s use, we, together with our partners, prepared recordings of a webinar that we organized in February to inform about the survey and to give you some hints that make filling in the questionnaire easier. During previous iterations of the survey, a great number of communities agreed to publish their Community Profiles on the nestor website (please scroll to the end). They can check whether they will adapt and update these data for the 2026 questionnaire. It’s important to fill in the new questionnaire in every iteration.
Please keep in mind that we need only one complete questionnaire per community / network for this iteration of the survey. Please communicate this in your network and ensure, that one single questionnaire is the “official” version of your community. Information regarding data privacy protection is included in the survey.
The survey has been designed by nestor - the German Network of Expertise in Digital Preservation.
