Just a quick reminder that the Digital Preservation Coalition event Every Object An Orchestra: A Software Preservation & Emulation Showcase is taking place one week from today, on Tuesday 28 April, and registration is still open.
Digital preservation is about more than keeping the bits and bytes. We can’t assess what we can’t open. We can’t use what we can’t render. We need to preserve access… in the future
Standard file formats can help, but not everything can be squeezed into a handy standard without loss. From floppy files to virtual worlds, from research outputs to media art, we are forced to face the fact that every digital item depends on a mixture of data and software. We’re all in the software preservation business, it’s just a matter of time.
This event takes the form of a lightning talk showcase, bringing together real examples of practical processes that are being used to preserve software right now, followed by a discussion to explore shared challenges, gaps, and opportunities across our community.
We look forward to seeing you online next week!
Kind regards/Met vriendelijke groet,
