Posted the comment after the break as a comment earlier today. Then
spent 20 minutes trawling blogs looking for some suggestions. Found
all sorts of interesting OTHER stuff, but would like to draw your
attention to this really interesting blog entry:
http://revitoped.blogspot.com/2006/06/detach-from-central.html Read
this blog in full, but the oped piece is entitled 'Detach from
Central' and offers 6 scenarios when this function should be used
including: "Internal Rendering:
So you like Accurender but wish the rest of the team would leave the
project alone long enough to get your mitts on it? Sounding like a
broken record now...DFC and go to town. Or maybe you don't like
Accurender and plan to export to Viz or Max? Same deal..."

I want to say - take a deep breath ans step back for a moment. Else
this will keep happening and is then likely to be caused as much by
haste and anger as any apparent problem with the machine / network.

e.g. Somewhere in the past 10 weeks we have talked about backups.
Questions that immediately come to mind are:
- Why was there no I:\drive copy of what you had on your portable HDD?
- Check the pull down Customize menu item > Preferences > Preference
Settings dialog > Files tab - this should show you where the
autobak.max file is located.
- after you saved the file to the HDD, did you try reading it back in
before shutting up shop?
- what (if any) error messages are you ignoring in getting to
'something that works' ?
