Mike,

Models in Viz, especially the larger ones import in very - how can i
put this - jagged? and parts look like they are missing. ie the
models is not smooth. we were wondering if this was a graphics card
setting. We fear it is going to be very hard to apply materials to
parts of the building which you cant see or disappear when zooming in
and out.

Cheers

This is why you trial the model transfer process on a regular basis.

Solutions:

- FIX by: Read the material into Deep Exploration in 317 - check all
geometry is facing the right way

- CHECK by: I don't believe it is the graphic card - it is more likely
to be the model creation and export process. You can check whether it
is the card by comparing the model on the generic cards in one of the
studios with the model on one of the room 317 computers...

- FIX by: selecting and applying materials by object name

- FIX by: selecting the objects that are behaving oddly and reversing
their normals in the edit mesh command in Viz

etc etc...

Found how to flip the normals however there are so many that are the
wrong way round this is going to be a major feat to get them all round
the right way.

It looks fine in Deep Explorer, and have tried importing by splitting
in the various options but it is still the same result.

Is this a case of just getting started and knowing it will take ages?

Surely you can pick the objects that need flipping normals by name -
rather than picking each individually?

Can you load into Deep Explorer - then try save as 3ds format new file
name to allow normals to face correct way.

Alternatively when you import you could try the weld normals option...
This should align all normals on one object in the same direction...
